SCHROEDER SNAPSHOTS
Feb 24-Mar 10
Greetings Schroeder Raider Families!
Thank you for taking the time to read our Schroeder Snapshots newsletter, where you’ll find the latest information about your student’s experience at Schroeder Middle School.
Our Spring Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled to take place from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 2 and Tuesday, March 7. Using the Sign-Up Genius emailed this past Monday, every parent and guardian should schedule a conference with their child’s Raider Time teacher. There has been time set aside before and after every scheduled conference to allow parents and guardians to conference with their child’s other teachers, including his or her Allied Arts teachers (physical education, art, family and consumer science, innovations, etc.).
Our counselors and administration will be available to meet as well. The staff and I appreciate our families taking advantage of this opportunity to engage in thoughtful conversations around their child’s growth at Schroeder Middle School.
Thank you to our parents and guardians who completed the High Reliability School (HRS)
survey in late January. Our teachers and administration combed over the results of our student, parent, and staff HRS survey data during professional development last Thursday, Feb. 16. The feedback we receive from these surveys is instrumental to our growth as a school and crucial for our goal of reaching HRS Level 2 certification – Effective Teaching in Every Classroom. We will share results of our findings in an upcoming issue of this newsletter – please stay tuned!
On Friday, March 10, Schroeder will hold its annual Big RED Day. This provides students with
exploratory activities during the normal school day, which are intended to provide opportunities for students to try a new activity that is rewarding, interesting, and fun. Please remind your son or daughter that he or she will need to be in good standing to participate in Big Red Day (cannot be ineligible due to academic or citizenship grades, and cannot have outstanding after school time to complete). Students get VERY excited about Big Red Day, and the Schroeder staff and I are thrilled to provide this opportunity! If you have any questions about Big Red Day, please contact Jen Becker, Jaime Olson, or the Schroeder office.
I hope you take time to enjoy the upcoming weekend with family and friends. Be safe and stay warm!
All the best,
David Nowatzki
Principal

Please enter this number into your phone so you can inform us when your student is absent or needs to leave our building during the day for an appointment. We request a phone call or written note for all absences.
Please be courteous to our office staff and teachers and call well in advance to the time that you are needing to pick up your student. By not doing this could result in delay of dismissing your student and interrupting a teacher in the middle of teaching a class.

DOORS OPEN: The east door (#2) opens early for morning band, orchestra, and athletic practices. Our other student entries (#1 and 17) open at 8:00 a.m., and once school begins, our front doorbell (#1) should be rung for visitor access. All doors are locked for security.
Parents Lead
Tips for Being a Good Listener
As a parent/guardian, sometimes you may feel as though your child does not listen to you. It is important that you communicate your needs and feelings to your child in an effective way.
A simple suggestion to improve communication between you and your child is to use “I” messages rather than “You” messages (which often create an oppositional situation).
For example, instead of saying, “You always leave your dirty dishes on the table. Can’t you pick up after yourself?” say, “When you leave your dishes on the table, I get frustrated because it makes extra work for me when I get home and I’m trying to make dinner.”
