Week 9 - Term 2 (Friday 18 June 2021)
Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success. Heny Ford - Author.
Dear Parents
Not that I’m counting but we have 11 days of school left. Now I’ve got your attention!! Like, we have so much to do and we’re running out of days. Actually, it’s not that drastic because we’ll do it, and it will all end with some well-earned holidays. T2 is 2021’s longest term, and T3 and T4 will return to the regular 10 week cycle.
Just this past week we have seen such activity here. Pyjamas have been showcased all week. Year 6 Blue presented their ‘Australian Notables’ last night, and tonight the Year 4 parents and children attended their First Communion workshop. On Wednesday morning our school psychologist, Leanne Caruso presented our second Town Hall, and her topic on ‘anxiety’ was very well attended. We also squeezed a P&F meeting in there on Tuesday evening, and we had Fr Vijay joining us as well. Lots of good things happening, and if you were at any of these events, we would love to hear your opinion. How did we go? It’s always useful to know what you think, and your thoughts are valued. There’s a link below to capture your thoughts.
At this week’s Gathering, I asked the school community to pray for our Year 4 students as they prepare to meet Jesus in Holy Communion. On Saturday 26 June at 6.00pm, and Sunday 27 June at 10.00am our Year 4 students will receive their First Holy Communion. For ourselves too, receiving Jesus in Communion is what strengthens and sustains our faith. That same faith we have chosen to share with our children.
Holy Communion (Eucharist) is where we receive the body and blood of Jesus. It can be a difficult concept for us to really understand and take part in fully. When speaking to our children about the Eucharist, we need to relate the Eucharist to their experiences. The Eucharist is a meal, just as food nourishes our body, the Eucharist is spiritual food that nourishes our soul. When we celebrate the Eucharist Jesus feeds us His Body and His Blood under the appearances of bread and wine.
Jesus is really present in the Eucharist under the form of bread and wine. When we celebrate the Eucharist and spend time with Jesus, our love for Him grows and his influence in our lives deepens.
As adult Christians, we need to take care that our weekly Eucharist does not become a ritual, something we go through on automatic pilot. Our bodies move obediently at the right places, our mouths speak the right words, but our minds are somewhere else. We need to be involved not only in receiving, but in giving; not just celebrating the Last Supper but in actively living out what Jesus asks of us.
The Lord be with you.
Chris
We should pray
Come, Lord, in the fullness of Your risen presence, make Yourself known to Your people again through the breaking of the bread and the sharing of the cup. Amen.
Gospel Mark 4:35-41
'Even the wind and the sea obey him'
With the coming of evening, Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Let us cross over to the other side.’ And leaving the crowd behind they took him, just as he was, in the boat; and there were other boats with him. Then it began to blow a gale and the waves were breaking into the boat so that it was almost swamped. But he was in the stern, his head on the cushion, asleep. They woke him and said to him, ‘Master, do you not care? We are going down!’ And he woke up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, ‘Quiet now! Be calm!’ And the wind dropped, and all was calm again. Then he said to them, ‘Why are you so frightened? How is it that you have no faith?’ They were filled with awe and said to one another, ‘Who can this be? Even the wind and the sea obey him.’
We would love to hear from you.
We do appreciate hearing from you after every planned event at St Jerome's School. We are keen to know what was successful, and any suggestions you may have for us to consider. This Google form will remain available to gather your opinion. Did you attend any of the following?

Bedtime Story Day
This week we celebrated the fun and importance of nightly reading by wearing our pyjamas to school on Bedtime Story Day.
Nightly reading is so important to a child’s growth and should be happening every night! Sharing a story before bed is an excellent way to bond with one another.
The gold coin donations will be donated to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation along with the proceeds of the Great Book Swap which will occur in September.
Lost - Piece of child's jewellery
A piece of jewellery has been found on the oval last week. If your child has lost this item, please enquire at the office.
