Message from the Principal
The last day of school has arrived! Although our in-person classroom time was cut short, I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on the positive aspects of the year. The COVID-19 pandemic may have prevented us from being together physically, but it certainly brought our entire community together virtually. Thank you for finishing the year strong and for a wonderful school year! Special thanks to our parents who have contributed in ways small, large, and unimaginable! Thank you for supporting your children with their online learning each day, helping them in the learning process, and for prioritizing the partnership between home and school.
I would like to extend a big thank you to our Home & School volunteers. I am in awe of your endless energy and commitment to providing experiences for the students and families at Willow Dale. We bid Mrs. Wilson, President of Home & School, Mrs. Pallozzi, Secretary, Mrs. Taylor, Treasurer, and all of our fifth-grade Committee members and parents, a fond farewell. Thank you for your dedication and years of service to Willow Dale.
Next, I would like to thank our hardworking and caring teachers and staff members who have made a huge difference for our students. Their commitment is outstanding, and our students are the lucky beneficiaries of their handiwork. Thank you for providing rich and engaging, well-rounded experiences. Your daily lessons showed that education is about passion, love, fostering curiosity, and developing the social skills needed for students to succeed. For these, and a million other contributions, we are truly grateful. Thank you and well done to an incredible group of professionals!
Sadly, we have to say goodbye to one of our teachers, Mrs. Fazzio, who will be moving to Davis Elementary next year. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to the Willow Dale students, staff, families, and the entire community. Your everyday interactions and impact will be greatly missed. Enjoy this new adventure and we look forward to your returning the future.
A final word to the Willow Dale students:
Thank you for your perseverance and persistence throughout the school year and especially after March 13, 2020. Mr. Julius and I are honored to be your principals. We will miss the bustling hallways, energetic cafeteria, active recess yard, virtual classroom visits, and all of your virtual hugs, pictures, and messages. You keep us laughing and young at heart. We are grateful for your kindness, intelligent insights, creativity, and amazing talents you shared throughout the year.
Best wishes to our fifth graders moving on to Log College Middle School-- You are an outstanding group of students whom we will miss much. Follow your dreams, and don’t forget that we are only a few steps away if you need us.
Lastly, I want to remind you to read every day!!! “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” – Dr. Seuss. Check out the details of the Summer Reading Challenge and other learning tools to keep your brain sharp during the summer later in the newsletter.
Until next school year, here’s wishing you a summer filled with love, laughter, and learning. We are looking forward to welcoming you back to Willow Dale in the fall.
We would love to hear from you over the summer. Send us an email with pictures to share how you are spending your summer. May you have a fun, safe, and relaxing summer break!
In the meantime, we can't wait to see our fifth-grade students today and our K-4 students on Monday! See the information below.

Summer Learning Opportunities
Reasons why summer learning is important for your child’s development:
1. It keeps the brain sharp
- The research shows that children who are not engaged in any type of mental activity during the summer may lose up to a third of what they have learned during the academic year.
2. More flexible time to engage in topics of interest
- This is a great time for kids to delve into areas of interest and project-based learning that includes core subject areas such as reading, math, and science.
3. Time to overcome a challenge, review concepts, or close gaps in weaker subjects
- With a more flexible schedule where kids can focus on one area, learning is more positive and relaxed.
4. It increases confidence
5. It provides children with a routine
