Readers' Workshop~
· During Readers’ Workshop, we continued working with our reading partners to share our reading experiences.
· We read and discussed Minnie and Moo Go to The Moon to learn more about stopping to think about our reading. We learned that drawing a picture to help remember important story elements is as effective as writing words.
· Also, we read and discussed Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day! We made text-to-self connections while analyzing the story's words and meanings.
· To increase our skills with story structure, we read and discussed Mr. Tanen’s Tie Troubles. We created a “Tie Shaped” Story Structure map denoting the story’s characters, setting, problem, and solution.
· During CAFE, we learned more about homographs, practiced letter writing by writing a letter to our principal, Mr. Bissinger, and read stories that highlighted key vocabulary words and story structure.
Writers' Workshop~
· As writers’ we completed our second letter to our 4L buddies. We worked with partners to enhance our opinion letters. Then, we published our letters to send to our 4L buddies.
· During Grammar, we learned about reflexive pronouns. To help us remember the meaning of reflexive pronouns, we visualized ourselves looking into a mirror. What do you see? You see “yourself” so reflexive pronouns have the word self as part of the pronoun. Reflexive pronouns include: myself, herself, himself, yourself, etc.
Mathematicians~
· As mathematicians, we completed several lessons learning how to measure objects and body parts using centimeters and inches.
· We used the data collected from our measurements to create a line-plot. We learned that line plots help us visualize data more easily. We can use a line plot to make comparisons and solve math questions.
· Also, we completed math explorations working with shapes, graphs, and measurement.
Science~
· During Science, we read and discussed ways in which earth’s materials are used in our world.
· We completed an experiment by examining and etching different types of sandpaper. We learned that sandpaper is made from one of earth’s materials ~ sand. We also learned that we have 3 types of sandpaper ~ coarse, medium, and fine. Course sandpaper is really rough, while fine sandpaper has more and smaller particles of sand creating a smoother texture. Different types of sandpaper are used to smooth rough objects.
· Also, we rubbed two pieces of sandpaper together and observed the sand collected sand particles.
Other Activities~
· Paige Stratter was our Star Student of the Week. We enjoyed learning more about Paige.
· To help us connect with the Word of the Month, we learned about Serena Williams and her strategies to being Well-Balanced. We completed our Word of the Month ~ Well-Balanced connection by illustrating and writing about how we are well-balanced.
