April 2024
A Note From Mrs. Chivington:
Dear Valley Families,
I hope you were able to enjoy some time with loved ones over Spring Break!
During the next few weeks, students in grades 3-5 will be completing Ohio State Testing. In an effort to provide an optimal testing situation, all students will be asked to keep the building quiet on testing mornings and we will have a modified daily schedule here at school. The actual school day will have the same start and end times, but we will all work together in the building to support one another. The dates for each day of test administration are listed in the calendar section at the bottom of this newsletter.
Spring often brings thoughts about the next school year. Please know that each staff member that works with your child wants him or her to be successful, and they consider many factors when making class lists. To make the best possible class placements, we consider students' learning, social-emotional, and behavioral needs. Additionally, efforts are made to balance ability levels, personalities, and boys/girls. We also place students for specific services that may be needed (Gifted, Special Ed, ESL, etc.) Please understand that, because so many factors must be considered, it is not possible for us to accept requests for specific teachers. Please also keep in mind that a teacher who was a good fit for an older child or for a friend's child may not be the best fit for this one, and we will carefully consider all dynamics when choosing your child's teacher and classmates. Thankfully, Valley has an incredibly strong teaching staff and I feel confident in the abilities of each and every professional here!
Thank you as always for your support, and have a great Valley day!
Sincerely,
Sarah Chivington

Our Students SHINE!
We are very excited to announce that 1st grader Jonathan Rozama is Valley’s March recipient of the SHINE award for the 2023-2024 school year. Our Character Education program is a key component to helping our students understand what it means to lead and to be good citizens. Every month, we honor one student who consistently demonstrates two or more pillars of character which are: Citizenship, Caring, Trustworthiness, Fairness, Respect, and Responsibility. To recognize these students for their efforts, Beavercreek City Schools has created the “SHINE Award – Highlighting Outstanding Students of Character.”
This is how Jonathan’s teacher, Mrs. Lutter, describes him:
“Jonathan is an outstanding student of character! Jonathan shines in our classroom and school with his quiet and humble spirit that is an example for others to follow. I can always count on Jonathan to be responsible for taking care of his belongings and putting supplies exactly where they go! Jonathan is trustworthy of doing his work and is so focused on the task at hand! Without me asking, he will pull books out of his reading bag and write about them! Jonathan is a wonderful example of being a kind, patient friend, and the world needs more Jonathans to brighten our days!”
You are amazing, Jonathan! Great Work!

Attendance Information
Attendance at school is an important part of your child's education. Ohio House Bill 410 has strict attendance guidelines, and you can read more about those requirements here. Our Building Office Assistant, Shannon Wyatt, has created a helpful list of do's and don'ts to help your family avoid a truancy or chronic absenteeism letter. Please call her at (937) 429-7597 with any questions!
Attendance Do's and Don'ts
- DON'T forget to report an absence to the office! Call 937-429-7597, option 1 OR email valleyattendance@gocreek.org. If the absence is not reported by 10:00am, our automated calling system will call home for any absent student who we have not heard from.
- DO keep your student home until they are 24 hours symptom free, without medication.
- DON'T forget to get a doctor's note and turn it into the Valley office when your student visits the doctor during school hours. Each student has 10 absences per school year that a parent can excuse, however, if you get a doctor's note, the absence does not count against the 10 you are allotted. Doctor's notes should be turned in within 5 days of the absence.
- DO let us know in advance of any absences due to a vacation. The district is no longer using vacation request forms, therefore, an email to valleyattendance@gocreek.org is the best way to let us know about an upcoming vacation. The district excuses 5 vacation/out of town days per school year.
Thank you for making your child's attendance in school a priority!
