Updates from Wood County's ADAMHS Board
You Are Not Alone
We understand that the public health situation concerning COVID-19 (Coronavirus) may be causing anxiety and worry among individuals. While we hear often from public health officials the importance of taking care of our physical health, especially during this crucial times, it is also important to be mindful of our mental health. Some reactions and feelings that may happen as this situation unfolds can include difficulty concentrating and sleeping, anger, hyper-vigilance to your body and health, social withdrawal, and feeling helplessness. While this health issue is being taken very seriously by public health authorities, do not let your worry about this virus control your life.
We hope that during this time, conversations about mental health issues happen as individuals lean on loved ones for support during this difficult time. We will be providing resources, tips, and coping skills that those who are struggling can learn about on our social media platforms. Take time this spring to reach out to someone and ask them how they are by phone, text, or video chat. This may start a conversation they've been waiting to have. And make you sure you take time to check-in on yourself too because you matter.
We understand that there may be additional stressors caused due to this public health crisis that may lead people to thoughts of hurting or killing themselves. It is a very stressful and difficult time for many individuals in our community, but the Wood County ADAMHS Board wants you to know that you are not alone. For immediate assistance, please call the Wood County Crisis Line 419-502-HOPE (4673) or text “4HOPE” at the Crisis Text Line by messaging 741-741. Dial 2-1-1 to be connected to any additional resources and referrals including mental health treatment today, or any other resources you may need during this time.
Remember, your mental health is just as important as your physical health. You are not alone.
Important Update
One of the best ways to prevent the spread of viral illness is to minimize the circumstances in which individuals might interact and transmit the disease. The safety of our community is our top priority. We realize that our COVID-19 guidelines will cause disruption, but risk of not acting outweighs the inconvenience of these temporary measures. We will share updates as more information becomes available.
The ADMAHS Office is operating on an appointment only basis. All personnel are actively working, but we ask that you please call or email us.
You can contact us by phone or e-mail. Any voicemails left will be returned between normal working hours (8 a.m.-4 p.m.)
Meet the Staff
Cheryl Critton is the current Data Coordinator for the Wood County ADAMHS Board. She attended Rochester Area Vocational Institute after high school, where she graduated with a certificate in Human Services and a specialty in Chemical Dependency. She was introduced to the mental health and addiction field by her high school guidance counselor. “I thought it would be an interesting field of study,” says Cheryl, “I found that helping clients suffering from addiction problems interested me and I felt satisfaction when I could make a difference.”
Prior to her work at the Wood County ADAMHS Board, Cheryl was involved in rotations at the Minnesota State hospital when she was working towards her certificate. She worked with a variety of clients by attending group counseling sessions and shadowing social workers to observe their interactions with clients. She also completed an internship with a non-medical detox clinic at St. Francis Hospital in Lacrosse, Wisconsin. She was then hired on after graduation and worked there for the next two years.
In her free time, Cheryl loves to read any and all books. She also enjoys cooking and finding new recipes to try, like brunch ideas and soups. Cheryl also enjoys playing the piano. She considers this to be a source of joy for her. For her self-care, Cheryl focuses on physical health including eating well, and walking before work.
Provider Updates
A Renewed Mind’s offices in Perrysburg and Bowling Green remain open as “essential” providers of mental health and substance use disorder services. We continue to take new clients and have “open access” hours to allow for walk-in assessments. We are providing a large majority of our services via tele-health by computer, tablet, or phone for those that have the connectivity and wish to have their appointments from the convenience of their home. This even includes the initial diagnostic evaluation which can be performed via phone or video conferencing means.
In our offices we are following the CDC guidelines for sanitizing, social distancing, and ensuring the offices are cleaned more regularly.
We post all office hour changes or other important news on our website’s special Corona Virus page at ARenewedMindServices.org and our Facebook page: A Renewed Mind Behavioral Health. We encourage all clients or prospective clients to check those sites for ongoing information.
CRC has been providing support to families in Wood County since 1976. We continue to be here to support your family through these uncertain and stressful times.
Please call 419-352-7588 for information about our services or to set up an assessment.
In order to follow the recommendations for social distancing to prevent the spread of coronavirus, as of March 30, 2020 CRC will use telehealth for the following services:
· Assessments
· Therapy services (both school-based and agency-based)
· Prevention/Early Childhood Services
· Home-based services
· Group services
This means you will not be required to leave your home to continue to participate in services and receive support. We have secured programming to allow us to provide HIPAA compliant and secure Telehealth services. For families who don’t have access to video technology (smartphone, tablet, computer with camera, etc.) we will do sessions by telephone.
We continue to provide Crisis Services for any youth and family in Wood County.
Please call 419-352-7588 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to access the crisis therapist.
MRSS Services will be provided through telehealth or telephone. Any crisis situations will be referred for Crisis Intervention services.
We have started to shift psychiatric services to telehealth visits families would access from home.
We anticipate to be fully shifted to this format over the next few weeks.
Our Residential Unit continues to be in full operation.
We have made adjustments to our visitation protocol in order to comply with guidance to prevent the spread of coronavirus. At this time, in-person visitation has been restricted for anyone from outside the facility. We have added the capacity to do visits both by video and telephone to maintain family contact and interaction between families and their child/teen.
We are all in this together.
If you have a child or teenager who is experiencing any mental health difficulties please reach out to us.
We can help.

Following Governor Mike DeWine’s executive order to close schools due to the COVID-19 virus, Wood County Schools and the Wood County ESC have been closed since March 16 and that order has been extended through May 1. During this time our office has only been open to essential personnel. The staff have been working from home and learning how to adjust our service delivery. We have been transitioning to online services to conduct our business. Just like the teachers in the school districts our prevention specialists are learning to deliver educational programs remotely. We are also exploring ways to reach out to the adult community and to teachers in order to keep providing education and professional development.
Managers and staff are also busy with identifying resources, both educational and social emotional, that can be posted on district websites to help support parents and students during this difficult time. Prevention Specialists have not only maintained online classes on prevention, but have been able to continue many of their one-on-one sessions with students.
While every family’s needs are different, depending on how COVID-19 has affected them personally, we have tried to determine how to balance our expectations from both parents and students. Some families do not have the resources or reliable access to the internet, while others want more from teachers and our programming as well. Finding a happy medium is the key to continued success for all of education as we continue to evolve through these challenging times.
The program director, manager, and prevention specialists have also attended online trainings and webinars from CADCA, CDC, Prevention Action Alliance and OHMAS. These professional development opportunities have helped the staff to adjust to COVID-19, tele-health services, federal and state legislative updates, and resources that can be shared and provided to school districts, students, and families.
