A Message from Ms. McKay
What a wild mix of things happening - from winter storms to spring thaws and back again, April Break, rainbow week - Spring is all things except routine sometimes! We seem to be getting past the various illnesses that have been circulating in the community, and hopefully this is the last weather disruption of the season. Educators often reflect that after April Break, things really pick up speed! We will be focused on ending our school year strong, with grade-level learning, field trips, and annual activities such as Field Day. We will be having transition talks with Fisher-Mitchell School staff introducing all the great second graders heading their way, and we will do work directly with 2nd grade to help them have any questions answered and to begin feeling more comfortable about the coming switch. Our Pre-K students will be getting ready to "step up" as well into Kindergarten, and the corresponding K to 1 and 1 to 2. Finally, the budget process in well underway, and we will be working through several more board meetings to adopt a budget and present it for a vote. Please come out and support the school budget on Tuesday May 28th, at Morse High School 6 pm!
Lines from the Library
Students at Dike-Newell have been participating in Chickadee Award voting during their library classes this week. This award is in its 19th year, and is given annually to one of 10 picture books nominated by a committee of teachers, librarians, and early literacy professionals. Students read all 10 books and then vote for their favorite. The purpose of the Chickadee Award is to encourage children to develop an appreciation for excellence in writing and illustration that will stay with them for the rest of their lives!

Healthy foods are an important part of everyone's diet to help maintain strong bodies, improve mental clarity, keep a healthy weight, and prevent chronic disease.
Sometimes children prefer certain textures when eating. Check out the attached handout "Healthy Foods by Textures" to get some ideas on how to promote healthy eating.
