Full Week of School
Message from Mr. Burns
Hi Wims Families,
Can you believe that March is already here? Only one more week before we move the clocks forward and welcome more sunlight throughout the day:)
This is a special message for our 4th and 5th grade parents! Please remember that your child will need to arrive at school between 7:45 - 7:55AM on Tuesday, March 5 to board the buses for the Mt. Vernon Field Trip. Buses will be pulling out of our bus circle promptly at 8AM. Students should bring a fully disposable bag lunch with them. No electronic devices are allowed on the trip. Students will arrive back from Mt. Vernon in time for their normal afternoon dismissal from school. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Frazier in the Main Office at 240-406-1670.

Family Life Parent Meeting (Grade 5 Parents)
Family Life Parent Meeting on Wednesday, March 6th at 6 pm in the Media Center.
MCPS Parent Survey
MCPS has released the annual staff, student, and family climate and culture surveys. The surveys are essential for creating inclusive, supportive, and thriving school communities. Please take a moment to fill out the parent survey for Wims. The link for the survey can be reached here: https://parentsurvey.mcpsmd.org/. It requires you to enter your child's student ID number. You can find your child’s MCPS student ID in ParentVue or on their report cards. The survey will be available through March 15th. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to let me know:)
Grade 2 SIPPI Process
All Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Grade 2 students will be screened as part of the Student Instructional Program Planning and Implementation (SIPPI) process, which is the universal screening for gifted and talented (GT) identification. Additionally, students in Grades 3, 5 and 7 who are new to MCPS, or have not been previously identified as gifted and talented, will participate in the screening process. The screening process considers various academic assessments and behavioral checklists to determine whether a student meets criteria for GT designation. In June, you will receive a letter that includes your student’s GT designation.
Data sources for 2023–2024 include:
Academic Assessments:
- Literacy District Assessment
- Mathematics District Assessment
- Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT)-Grade 2 only
- Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Reading & Mathematics
- Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) English/Language Arts & Mathematics-Grade 7 only
Behavioral Checklists:
- Parent Input Form
- Teacher Survey(s)
The SIPPI process is designed to capture data about students’ strengths for gifted and talented identification and to inform instructional planning for the next school year. The gifted and talented identification process is separate from the MCPS elementary and middle school selective magnet processes (i.e., Centers for Enriched Students, Middle School Magnets). The gifted and talented designation is not considered in the selective magnet processes. Gifted and talented designation is one indicator of advanced academic performance and/or potential that is used to inform opportunities for enriched and accelerated instruction at the local school. Our school will monitor additional student data to make informed decisions regarding enrichment and acceleration opportunities, in the core content areas, throughout the school year.
For more information about the specific grade-level criteria used for gifted and talented identification and answers to frequently asked questions, please visit: https://bit.ly/MCPS-GT-23-24

From the PTA Board
Dear Families,
Welcome, March!
According to the internet, there is one week until daylight savings, 16 days until spring, and 109 days until summer. Not that anyone is counting (I am counting).
There are also TWO days until our March PTA Meeting! We hope that you will join us on Tuesday at 6:30 in the Wims Media Center - we are winding down this school year, but there are still a lot of exciting things coming up for our students and the PTA still needs your help! In person participation is always encouraged, as it better supports our family environment and helps us get to know each other better. If you would like to participate by Zoom, please use this link to join the meeting or Meeting ID: 863 3241 6347; Passcode: 842096.
Attention 4th Grade Parents! Please join the 5th Grade Promotion Committee and help to plan a wonderful sendoff for our 5th Graders as they head to middle school. This is your chance to “pay it forward” so that next year, families will do the same to celebrate your 5th Grader! Volunteers are needed to transport items to Clarksburg High School, decorate the cafeteria, and cut/ serve cake following the ceremony on Friday, June 7th. If you are able to help our Committee Chairs, please reach out to president@wwespta.org.
Have a Wonderful Wildcat Week!

Community Corner
Hallie Wells Middle School Workgroup and Interest Form: Leadership at Hallie Wells has created an opportunity to engage collaboratively in building safe spaces for students in our community through workgroups. Please complete this form to indicate your interest in participating. Your student does not need to be a student at Hallie Wells to participate.
Clarksburg Library Update: County Executive Marc Elrich has put the library in the next Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), which means design takes place in June 2024 and built by 2027. The next step in the process is approval by the County Council on March 7th. The community is hopeful for approval, but is launching one additional letter-writing campaign, this time to all the County Council members, to ensure smooth sailing. All letters, emails, or drawings should be sent to the Council by March 7th. Your help is requested to organize a school-wide effort (students or parents) to support the library. The email address for all County Council members is county.council@montgomerycountymd.gov. If you would prefer to use an email template, please use this form. Thank you for considering this important effort!
