News from Ms. Hess
In writing, we are starting to develop short pieces for our personal narrative memoir that will be developed this next month. Right now, we are working on developing specific memories into short pieces about people that matter to us.
In math, we worked in math workshop to practice multiplication of larger numbers using the standard algorithm. We are learning about using the order of operations to evaluate numerical expressions using parentheses, brackets, and braces.
In science, we learned to classify leaves according to their leaf venation - pinnate, parallel, and palmate. Have your child point out some types of leaves as they help rake (one can hope;)!
Our Second Step goal is predicting other people's feelings. Predicting other's feelings can help one have empathy and compassion and help us adjust our behavior based on another's feelings.
Whole group band will be on every Tuesday and Friday from 2:20 - 3:00. Musicians will also receive a small group lesson once a week on a Tuesday or Friday.
Halloween Information - Parade & Party on October 31
12:10 - Halloween Parade through the school - starts at preschool and ends with 5th grade
12:25 ish - Halloween Party!
Please see the link below to sign up to bring something or to help out for our party! Let's make it a great one as it's our 5th graders last year to dress up for a party!
Thank you in advance!
*Students should wear school appropriate costumes without pretend weapons. If wearing a scary mask, kids will be asked to take it off while visiting the lower elementary. Thanks for helping us support building empathy for others!
IXL Practice for Math: O3, O4, C13, C14, C16, C18
Learning Goals This Week:
Math: I can multiply multi-digit numbers using the standard algorithm and use the order of operations to evaluate numerical expressions including parentheses, brackets, and braces.
Writing: I can make lists of ideas of special people and start to generate memories. I can draft a short personal narrative piece around these ideas.
Science: I can collect data, calculate averages, and analyze data to support my claim.
