MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear CMS Families,
It's hard to believe that next Wednesday is May 1st, and we only have 3 1/2 weeks of school remaining. However, we have several exciting events and activities lined up to make the remainder of the school year memorable for our students.
Next week, ALL students will be participating in the Math Ohio State Tests (OST). This will be the final testing session of the year, and please help us ensure that all students are well-prepared and ready to perform their best.
ERINS LAW
Ohio law requires developmentally appropriate instruction in child sexual abuse prevention, dating and sexual violence prevention to be included in schools prescribed curriculum. Beginning in the 2023-2024 school year, schools are required to provide developmentally appropriate instruction in child sexual abuse prevention to students in grades K through 6 and sexual violence prevention education during health education to students in grades 7 through 12. Linked below is a letter detailing the application of this education for students in grades 4-6 at CMS. Please review. Communication about the resources for 7th grade will be shared when available.
7TH GRADE HEALTHY CHOICES
Mrs. Collins will be meeting with teh 7th grade students on Monday, April 29. During this session, Mrs. Collins will be discussing the importance of engaging in healthy activities, especially as our students prepare to transition to 8th grade at Chardon High School. Students will have the opportunity to identify healthy activities that help them regulate their emotions and cope with stress.
The lesson will be structured around building upon their strengths, and Mrs. Collins will be using resources from Sources of Strength to guide the discussion.
BOOK FAIR BOGO
The book fair will be open from May 7th - May 9th for students to visit and purchase books during the school day. A schedule has been created and your child's ELA teacher will share their assigned date. Payment methods are Cash, Credit Card and Checks made payable to Chardon Local Schools. You also have an option to set up an ewallet for your student at the following link:
https://www.scholastic.com/bf/chardonmiddleschool
PLEASE NOTE: We are obligated to collect sales tax for all purchases made during the Fair, regardless of the shopper, product, or payment method. There is only one exception: no sales tax for purchases made by the school with school funds for the school's use.
ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND!
Mr. Tomco

CPR/FIRST AID
This past week our 6th grade students had the opportunity to learn and practice CPR and first aid skills. Thanks to the collaboration with Auburn Career Center staff and students, our students were able to gain valuable life-saving knowledge that will empower them as responsible citizens.
During the training sessions, students received hands-on instruction on CPR techniques and first aid procedures. They had the opportunity to practice these skills on manikins and receive direct feedback from the Auburn Career Center team. This practical experience not only enhanced their understanding of emergency response but also boosted their confidence in applying these skills when needed.
We are incredibly grateful for the partnership with Auburn Career Center and the dedication of their staff and students in providing this invaluable training to our students.
