Boals Weekly Anchor
Boals News
Dear Boals’ Families,
Fall is in the air and the students have been learning so much each day. I am sure that your child has been coming home and sharing with you all the wonderful lessons and activities our Boals teachers and staff have been implementing daily.
I want to thank all of our Dads and Father figures for attending our Watch Dog Pizza Night, this past Monday. We had a wonderful turn out. The Watch Dog program has officially begun. If you are interested in being a Watch Dog for our campus please visit the following link http://goo.gl/Iax4yV.
Next Wednesday, September 30th will be our Boosterthon Fun Run. Our students are currently raising money to help purchase more technology and teacher resources for our campus. The Fun Run will begin on the 30th at 8:30 for Kindergarten and First grade. 9:30 for Second and Third grade and 10:30 for Fourth and Fifth grade. At 2:00 there will be a special Color Run for Fourth and Fifth grade students. All visitors planning to attend the Boosterthon, which will be located on Falcon Field Park, will need to check in to the office for the Fun Run and obtain a visitors badge.
With many events coming up on campus, I just wanted to remind everyone that dogs are not allowed on campus, per FISD policy. Thank you so much for support.
If you are interested in finding out more about any campus or PTA sponsored events, please visit the PTA website at www.boalspta.org or our campus website at www.friscoisd.org/boals.
Proud Principal,
Christina Beran
Attendance Information
Boals Parents,
With the school year underway, questions arise regarding attendance. The complete attendance policy for FISD Elementary students can be found in the 2015-2016 FISD Student Handbook, http://www.friscoisd.org/docs/default-source/district-resource-library/es_handbook.pdf?sfvrsn=2
Listed below are reminders regarding Tardy, Absences, Leave Early and Medical Appointments.
TARDY
- A student will be marked Tardy if arrival is between 7:52am and 10:00am.
- A parent note will not excuse a Tardy. This is an unexcused occurrence on the attendance record.
ABSENCES
- If your child is going to be absent, email the Data Clerk, Lori Nunes at cochranl@friscoisd.org by 8:30am. If unable to email, please call the Office at 469-633-3300 by 8:30am.
- Absent 1 through 4 days due to illness: a parent note, parent email or doctor’s note is required within 3 school days of the student’s return to excuse the absence(s).
- Absent 5 or more days due to illness: a doctor’s note is required within 3 school days of the student’s return to excuse the absences.
- Absent 1, 2 or 3 consecutive days due to family vacation: a parent note or parent email is required in advance for Principal Beran’s review. Absences due to family travel are unexcused.
- Absent 4 or more consecutive days due to family vacation: FISD Absence Request form must be submitted in advance for Principal Beran’s review. Absences due to family travel are unexcused.
- Absent due to religious observance: a parent note or parent email is required documenting the specific observance within 3 school days of the student’s return to excuse the absence.
LEAVE EARLY
If a student leaves school between 10:01am and 2:50pm, his/her attendance record will be coded with an unexcused occurrence, Leave Early. The only exception to this is for a medical appointment (see below) or the Boals Nurse sending a student home. This is an unexcused occurrence on the attendance record.
MEDICAL APPOINTMENT
Medical appointments might require a student to miss part of a school day. In those instances, a doctor’s note must be submitted within 3 school days of the student’s return in order for the occurrence to be excused. A parent note or email is not acceptable.
Please email and/or send all notes to the Data Clerk, Lori Nunes, cochranl@friscoisd.org. If a required note is not received within 3 school days of the child’s return, the absence or medical appointment will be coded unexcused. When a student reaches a total of 3 and 7 Unexcused occurrences, attendance letters will be sent. When the total reaches 10 Unexcused occurrences, the case will be referred to a FISD Truancy Facilitator to determine if charges will be filed with the court.
Information from Nurse Olson
Dear Parents,
We will be having our annual Boosterthon Fun Run on Wednesday September 30th. This event is a lot of fun and the students work really hard to run as many laps as they can to raise money for our school.
If your child has asthma or has asthma medication at home that they need to use when they’ve been exercising hard, please be sure that you bring it to me here in the clinic before Boosterthon day so it will be readily available if your child needs it.
The medication will have to have a prescription label from the pharmacy with your child’s name on it. Expired medications, or medications that don’t have a prescription label on them cannot be used. If you don’t have the box with the prescription label on it, your pharmacy will be happy to print you a new label for free.
If the asthma medication is nebulized, I have a nebulizer machine in the clinic. You will need to provide medication, tubing and the mouthpiece of mask to deliver the medication.
Please note that students are not allowed to carry their own asthma medications at school without having a special FISD form filled out by their doctor. That form needs to be turned in to me here in the clinic before your child will be allowed to carry their inhaler at school.
I have all of the paperwork you need for asthma medicine in the clinic. If you need it, please stop by the clinic or contact me and I will email the paperwork to you.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions—I’m happy to help!
We are looking forward to a great Boosterthon Day!
Sincerely,
Sue Olson, RN BSN

PTA News
Reflections Program – Let your Imagination Fly
Is your child an artist? Let their imagination fly through their own dance, by producing a film, writing a poem or short story, composing a song, taking a picture, or creating a piece of visual art. The National PTA Reflections program is PTA’s cornerstone arts program. It offers students the opportunity to earn local, state and even national recognition for original artwork they create. All they have to do is reflect on the theme (Let your Imagination Fly), create an original work in one or all of the six categories that relates to the theme, and submit their entry by October 23, 2015. Rules and entry forms can be found at http://www.txpta.org/programs/reflections/participate/ or can be picked up in the front office. Please see the attached flyer for additional information, or contact reflections@boalspta.org.
