PTO
The purpose of the Elkton Middle School Parent Teacher Organization is to enhance and support the educational experience at Elkton Middle School (EMS), to develop a closer connection between school and home by encouraging family involvement, to provide low to no-cost events for students, and to improve the environment at EMS through volunteer and financial support.
Show your support by joining the new Elkton Middle PTO group!
PHYSICALS & VACCINATIONS
A reminder for sports physicals, physicals in general and immunizations (if you so choose to vaccinate your student); please don't wait until the last minute to schedule those appointments as those time slots go fast at doctors’ offices. Plan, plan, plan ahead!
*Remember if it's recommended, then you as the parent have the right to verbally decline that vaccination. If it's required, then you either have to get those vaccinations or you as the parent can choose exemption options (do your research). EMS supports you as the parent having the right to choose whatever works for your family.
EMS simply needs one of the following:
-The vaccination record showing your child received the vaccinations required by the state of Virginia
-The exemption form that worked for your family (medical from your doctor or religious that is notarized)
Attendance Email
Student Attendance
We have an attendance email address dedicated to attendance information and notes! Email us at emsattendance@rockingham.k12.va.us to report daily absences. We hope this can help to make things easier on busy families (once you email, you do not need to call or send anything in writing). Doctor offices may also send scanned/electronic notes directly to the school using this email address.
Work Permit Information
Work Permits (Employment Certificates) for Minors
The Department of Labor and Industry launched an automated, employment certificate process in accordance with the General Assembly changes to §40.1-92 of the Code of Virginia effective July 1, 2013.
Children and their parents no longer need to apply for an employment certificate (work permit) at their school. The process is online and parents and students can find the application by clicking HERE!
Step 1: Minor fills out personal information. Once completed they will be provided an ID number. They will provide their hiring manager that number in order to complete Step 2.
Step 2: Completed by the minor's hiring manager using the ID number they provided from Step 1.
Step 3: Parent/Guardian completes using minor's ID number from Step 1.
Paper applications are no longer available at the schools.
