Dear Potomac Parents and Guardians,
Happy Administrative Professionals Week! I’d like to give special recognition to our Potomac Support Staff! From registration to graduation and EVERYTHING between, our Support Staff does so much “behind-the-scenes” to ensure our building runs smoothly. I couldn’t be more proud of our Support Staff for their teamwork, kindness, and positivity all year long! If you’ve had a positive interaction with any of our Potomac Support Staff member, I encourage you to send them a quick email letting them know that they are appreciated! Please find Potomac Senior High School updates below:
+ EARTH DAY RECOGNITION: Did you know that there could be more plastics in our oceans than fish by 2050? Our Potomac Student Leadership classes are helping to make a positive impact on our planet by celebrating Earth Day this Monday, April 22nd with a small clean-up project after school. Earth Day is an annual event on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection.
Staff and students are invited to WEAR GREEN on Monday and see Ms. Catlett in Room 7002 in the English Department for more information on our schoolwide clean-up project.
+ ART FESTIVAL: Attention Potomac Art parents and supporters! Our Potomac Art Department students will be showcasing their best work on Saturday April 27th from 10a-4p at the 2024 High School Fine Arts Festival at the Kelly Leadership Center building. Our Art students would love for friends, family, staff, and students to come out and support. Please see the flyer below.
Please email our Yearbook Advisor, Mr. Joseph Wilke (wilkeja@pwcs.edu), with any questions.

+ TESTING UPDATE: Many of our schoolwide logistics for SOL testing this year will reflect details similar to last school year. A few notes:
- SOL testing will take place from Thursday, May 2 – Friday, May 10. Testing will be done by period with 1 period testing each day.
- To accommodate extended testing times, a modified bell schedule will be shared for the 7 days of testing.
- In addition to normal classroom teaching and learning opportunities, please see the various extra SOL help sessions offered by our departments below and encourage your student to take advantage!
- Students will receive several reminders of their SOL testing dates before their actual test date and the day before their test.
If you haven’t already, please check-in with your student to ensure that they are aware of any upcoming SOLs and that they are taking time now to practice or stay afterschool for additional assistance, if necessary. Please email Mr. Jim Utterback (UtterbJE@pwcs.edu) right away if you have SOL testing questions.
* Don’t forget that Cambridge testing begins on Thursday, 4/25! Please contact our Cambridge Coordinator, Mr. Jeff MacDonald (MacDonJL@pwcs.edu), with any questions.
+ SUMMER SCHOOL: Students in grades 9-12 that fail a course, will be expected to take advantage of the summer offering of courses to support on-time graduation. There are additional summer options for high school students in need of SOL remediation and testing.
The host high school sites are Freedom High School and Osbourn Park High School. The registration window for summer school is April 9 - May 31, 2024. No late registrations will be accepted.
