Peace
Our Big Idea for March is Peace!! The Core Essentials curriculum defines peace as "proving you care more about each other than winning an argument." We will also talk about conflict resolution and learn about using "I Statements" this month!
I always look forward to seeing your students in class! Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you!!
Emily
I Statements/Talk It Out
There are three parts to "I Statements" that your student will learn/review in March.
1. "I feel" - Most people don't want others to feel bad. If you tell others how you feel when you are upset, they will be more likely to change what they are doing.
2. "When you" - If you don't tell the other person specifically what they did that you are upset by, they might be confused and not understand. They might also change the wrong behavior (and you might think they have changed nothing) which could lead to further miscommunication and conflict.
3. "Could you please" - It is important to tell the person what they could do to make things better in the future. This could also start with "I need you to...".
Ask your child...
Have you had any arguments with your friends or family recently? Was there a way to solve
the problem without it becoming an argument?
