IMPORTANT MESSAGE (TIK TOK CHALLENGE)
Parents, as we are still early in the school year, we want to take this opportunity to remind you to make sure your student is aware of behavior expectations at school. Please take time together to review the student handbook, which may be found online. It is important that students understand that violations of the student code conduct can result in suspension from school, tribunal hearings, and legal charges.
This is extremely important for students to understand as many are influenced or encouraged by behavior they see on social media. As such, we also wanted to use this opportunity to make you aware of a new social media challenge that has gone viral in our state and nation. A recent TikTok challenge is encouraging students to video-record themselves stealing, vandalizing, or defacing school property, particularly in school restrooms. Please know that this type of behavior will not be tolerated on our school campus. Any students found participating in this challenge at school will be required to pay restitution, and will also be suspended and referred to both law enforcement and to a tribunal hearing for additional disciplinary action.
We wanted to make you aware of this viral challenge and the severe consequences students will face if caught, so you can discuss the seriousness of this matter with your child. If we could give you one piece of advice, it would be to monitor your child’s social media presence regularly and remind him or her that their social media footprint has the potential to stay online forever meaning it could impact college admissions and career ambitions. We encourage you to have this important conversation with your student today.
THIS GOES FOR ANY FUTURE TIK TOK CHALLENGES THAT VIOLATE ANY STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT. RECENTLY, INFORMATION HAS SURFACED THAT EACH MONTH, THERE'S A DIFFERENT CHALLENGE REGARDING SCHOOL. PLEASE SPEAK WITH YOUR CHILD NOW SO THAT THEY WILL NOT TAKE PART IN ANY SUCH CHALLENGES THAT WILL RESULT IN DISCIPLINARY CONSEQUENCES.
Thank you for your understanding and as always, thank you for your continued support of our school.
