Michelangelo's Biography
Michelangelo Di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni was born on March 6, 1475.He spent most of his life in Rome.
His highest level of education was grammar school.
Due to his mother's illness he was placed with a family of stonecutters. His father allowed him to an apprentice at a painter workshop. He only studied for a year, when he was given the opportunity to study with the Medici Family
Michelangelo created sculptures. Two of his best-known works are the Pieta and David.
His patrons were Leonardo Da Vinci, Lorenzo De' Medici, Pope Clement VII, and Pope Julius II.
He died on February 18, 1564, Rome, Italy
The Pieta
It was created in 1498 -1500
It can be seen in Basillica di San Pietro in Vaticano in Rome, Italy.
What's so significant about this is that it shows that beauty on earth reflects God's beauty. It was unusual because it was a multifigure statue and Mary and Jesus weren't in proportion. Mary is a lot larger than Jesus. He also used deep cutting techniques to make realistic clothing.
I find this piece so interesting because it will help me become more religious.
This sculpture represents humanism because he is trying to represent the human form as divine.
