Muraski TEAM Memo
For the Week of January 28th
This is OUR TEAM!
A Special Shout Out and THANK YOU to MARK HACKER for leading the way with preparing our school and outdoors for a safe arrival!
Things to do this week...
1. In case you missed it or have not had a chance to fill out the survey Jenni sent last week, here it is again for your convenience. She would like EVERY staff member to fill it out. As we move from solely teacher related content or tasks to more global concepts like teaching students about critical thinking or problem solving, it takes every adult. Therefore, she wants everyone to participate and share their thoughts based on your experiences. If you don’t know how to respond you can always select don’t know or place an N/A. Thank you in advance for taking the time to share your thoughts.
2. Change your Dojo Catergories on Friday to start the new month. (Refer to January Staff Agenda for guidance)
3. Plan for Grade Level Reward for Thursday (2:45-3:15pm): Send Email to Tina to let her know what the reward will be by Wednesday.

100th DAY of SCHOOL - Message from Erin Green
Each district received a notification / guidance from Ohio Dept of Education regarding dressing up as elderly persons for the celebration of 100th day. It is not recommended to continue this practice. However, as I know some of our staff have been promoting this and making plans throughout the year, I would allow them to continue this year. However, please communicate this to your teachers for future years:
The Ohio Department of Aging and the Ohio Department of Education are offering suggestions to educators and administrators encouraging them to forego the increasingly common practice of allowing staff and students to dress up as 100-year-olds to mark the 100th day of the school year.
The seemingly harmless practice reinforces negative stereotypes about the appearance and behaviors of older people rather than celebrating the wisdom and character that seniors develop across a lifetime.
Some fun ideas to mark the 100th day of school while fostering a positive image of aging include reading a book with students that portrays aging in a positive light; inviting a local centenarian to visit with the class to share a story from his or her youth; asking a local senior center to demonstrate the health and wellness programs it offers and having students compare those activities to their own physical education; and learning about the Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame and discussing recent inductees with students.
Promoting positive perceptions of aging and older citizens starts with emphasizing the connections we share as Ohioans and human beings. We invite you to post your school’s age-positive activities to social media with the hashtag #100DaysWiserOH. Regardless of age or ability, older adults have a lot to contribute and can serve as role models for healthy aging.
Make sure you can still get the REMIND Messages....Please take a look and download the mobile App - if you are a Verizon Customer
We’re sorry to write with disappointing news. Recently, we learned that Verizon will be charging Remind a new fee that makes it impossible for us to continue supporting free text messaging for anyone who has Verizon Wireless as their phone carrier. Please read on for all the important details—we promise to keep this as short as we can.
What’s happening?
To offer our text messaging service free of charge, Remind has always paid for each text that our users receive or send. Now, Verizon is charging Remind an additional fee intended for companies that send spam over its network. Your Remind messages aren’t spam, but our efforts to resolve the issue with Verizon haven’t been successful.
As a result, the Verizon fee will increase our costs of providing text messaging by 11X—pushing our annual costs into the millions of dollars. This isn’t financially feasible for us to support, and it’s forcing us to end Remind text messaging for everyone who has a wireless plan with Verizon.
How will this affect you?
Beginning January 28, 2019, the people in your classes who normally get your Remind messages as texts will no longer receive these messages if they have Verizon Wireless as their phone carrier.
What can you do?
To make sure people in your classes continue receiving your messages, ask them to download the mobile app or enable email notifications—both of which are free of charge. Our team’s also working hard on a solution that allows your classes to continue to use Remind by text, and we’ll share more details with you before January 28.
In the meantime, we’ll keep fighting to make sure educators, students, and parents have access to effective communication. To do this, we need your help: If using Remind has made a positive impact in your classroom, at your school, or anywhere in between, please ask Verizon to reverse the fee here: www.remind.com/verizon-fee
We’re very grateful for your support, and we’ll be in touch soon with an update.
Sincerely,
The Remind team

Be a Presenter!! (from Vicki Turner)
Hello, All--
I’m reaching out to you with a personal invitation to present at the ESCNEO’s annual LEAD Tech and Teaching conference this summer (June 18, 2019) at Strongsville Middle School.
I hope that you will consider sharing your knowledge and experience with other educators who could benefit from your insight. To that end, I ask that you take a look at our presenter submission form to get an idea of our conference strands—which are aligned to the Ohio Teaching Standards.
I’ve attached the conference flyer, if you’d like to learn more. We’ve got digital pioneer, educator, and author Eric Sheninger providing this year’s keynote address: “Learning Transformed: 8 Keys to Designing Tomorrow’s Schools, Today.”
Thanks so much for considering sharing your experiences and knowledge!
