BEST POEM EVER !!

I Am From
By: Esperanza
I’m from Mango Street,
from feeling trapped
to feeling like I don’t belong.
I’m from Mama , Papa, Carlos, Kiki and my sister Nenny,
from a big family to sharing rooms.
Papa,
from his broom hair to his snoring.
Mama,
from her candy circled curly hair that smelled like bread
to holding holding you close
I’m from a red balloon tied
to an anchor,
filled with untold secrets.
Esperanza
a name that means sadness,
a muddy color to records my father plays on Sunday mornings.
Cathy,
a weirdo know it all to a cat person,
from warning me how bad the neighborhood is getting
to being my friend till Tuesday.
I’m from a junk store
owned by and old man,
a small dirty window used for light.
I’m from Juan also known as Meme,
a wooden house were the floors slanted,
21 steps that were lopsided
and jutting like crooked teeth.
Louie
the oldest in the family,
from Puerto Rico to a lot of cousins.
Marin,
from the green apples eyes
to dancing by herself.
short skirts
to being too stubborn to see reality.
I’m from those who don’t know better
from our shakity-shake knees,
to our tight up rolled windows.
Rosa Vargas,
too many kids to handle,
bending trees and bouncing between cars.
Alicia,
that is smart,
and studies for the first time at the university .
being a good girl that studies all night,
too being afraid of nothing but four-legged fur
and fathers .
Darius
who doesn't like school,
from sometimes being stupid
to chasing girls with firecrackers.
A family,
from their little arms
to little hands
Grandpa
who slept in the living room couch
and snored through his teeth.
his feet being too fat like thick tamales.
from white socks filled with powdered
to brown leather shoes.
Grandmas feet
from lovely as pink pearls
to velvety high heels that made her walk with a wobble.
Ruthie,
from red lipstick
too tall and skinny .
from laughing to herself
to walking her dog Bobo.
four skinny trees
four who grew despite concrete
four who don't forget to reach.
Sally,
from Nylons
the color of smoke
to her eyes of Egypt.
From feeling trapped
to safe to trapped again.
I'm from a house on the hill,
from grumble and squeaky floorboards
to bums in the attic.
Red Clowns
from skies that tipped
to colors that began to swirl.
From his sour mouth
to his dirty fingernails.
I'm from a house all on my own,
from a porch
to my pretty purple petunias.
from a house quiet as snow
to a space for myself to go.My main theme is that Esperanza is trapped in this cruel place she has to call home. For example in Red Clown that was one of the worst parts in her life. how she had nobody to help her. She tries to leave the first chance she gets but in reality she will always be mango street and eventually she will want to come back and help escape the rest of the trapped souls .
A Sentence that is in my poem that support my main idea is I’m from a red balloon tied
to an anchor,
filled with untold secrets.
Esperanza
a name that means sadness,
a muddy color to records my father plays on Sunday mornings.
This theme is integral because The whole book Esperanza has been comparing her life to others and in reality she always felt less about her self .
My key idea that I’m really focusing on is getting the people she cared about which is her family. I really think that her family where the only thing that actually kept her in mango street that long, but in the beginning of the poem I’m trying to get Esperanza's family involved
I’m from Mango Street,
from feeling trapped
to feeling like I don’t belong.
I’m from Mama , Papa, Carlos, Kiki and my sister Nenny,
from a big family to sharing rooms.
The sentence i chose is “ From feeling trapped to feeling like I don’t belong” these lines build tension . I feel like shes saying that shes dying slowly inside the longer she stays in a misery place. She judges people in her block and doesn't understand why are they so stupid to stay
I feel like Esperanza’s focus in the middle of the poem is to show how she wants to leave that Sally is stupid for wanting to grow up fast.

My tone is reflective because Esperanza will like to remember her good and bad in what happen in her past life . Another reason my poem is reflective is because Esperanza needs to remember about her personal space . My poem was reflective because in my poem I put her family and how they are and at the end I speak about Esperanza.
