Colt Round Up
April 21, 2019
"Your present circumstances don't determine where you can go; they merely determine where you start." - Nido Qubein (about Dr. Qubein)
With Appreciation:
- Big thanks to Irma for her work to keep our library current and well organized. We love how you expose students to different genres, too!
- Kudos to Lorri for her work supporting a kiddo who has gone out on Home Hospital. She's been his champion every step of the way!
- Rob and Arty have been rock stars as we prepared our MPR for Peter Pan. They also worked through the entire break to tidy our indoor and outdoor spaces, change air filters, and sanitize our classrooms. We <3 you!
- Shelly and Darren - the students in Peter Pan were AMAZING due to your leadership, vision and directing. You brought our community into the play to support behind the scenes in new and innovative ways and and we had the biggest attendance ever! Kudos, kudos, kudos!
- Scott - thank you for picking up and running the spotlight during the play - it made all the difference to highlight the action!

Skate Night on Tues., 4/30
We are encouraging staff (classified and certificated) to come out and skate or just hang out at this skate night - if you are there, we know more kids will come! If you are available, you can visit our digital sign up in our staff portal (click here).
Any staff that attend will receive complementary admission for themselves!
Quick Reminders
- Field Trip Food Request forms are due 14 days before you field trip
- Please stop in the office before you head out on a field trip to be sure you have all medical paperwork, and to ensure any meds have been picked up
- In the past, we've hosted an after school "volunteer appreciation event." This year, our goal is to host it before school as a breakfast - stay tuned!

When Big Feelings Don't Have Anywhere to Go
We've all had a moment (or many) where a child's reaction is so out of the ordinary that we are left confused and often frustrated. Someone (??? - thank you!) put this in my box recently and I thought it was a great reminder how how we can support kids when they are struggling with big feelings. There is a nice list of ways kids can process their feelings so they can make it back into class ready to work. You'll get a B&W copy in your box this week, but here is a color version in the meantime.
LCES Library of Class Readalouds in the staff room
- we'll be building up bookshelf that you can borrow from - we'll add another book each week or so
- check out this spreadsheet - let's keep it up to date with the library options and resources you can access that support the readaloud/book use in class.
- you are encouraged to borrow books to share with your class. Feel free to add your own books and resources too! Be sure to return items promptly so others can use them.
- This week, we feature:
iReady data Checkin
We'll post new iReady data in the future - our time on task has been a little hampered by pre-break activities and assessment prep.
Gate Duty
Thanks to everyone who has been able to help out with this volunteer duty - it's much appreciated. Some of you cannot help out due to other responsibilities - and that's okay too!
I think that anyone who does this duty will tell you it's a great way to start your day! Big thanks to the staff who have helped out to make this happen!
