Falcon Family Flyer 4/22/2024
2023-2024
Happy Sunday Falcon Families!!!
We are very excited about our upcoming Family Traditions Night on Friday evening! Please consider attending this amazing event! Last year, so many families came out to taste food samples, see a fashion show, hear our chorus sing songs, and have a great time watching displays that demonstrated the wonderful cultural history and backgrounds of many of our Falcons. Please see the information below about ways you can contribute or simply attend.
May is rapidly approaching which means SOL testing is rapidly approaching as well. If your child is in grades 3rd, 4th or 5th, they will be testing soon. Mrs. Bryan posted the testing schedule below along with other reminders. Please be sure to read the information carefully and reach out to your child's teacher if you have any questions.
At the end of May, we will host a Family Literacy Night. This evening is designed to encourage your child to read over the summer. If you and your child will attend, please complete one of the Response Forms below. If your child attends, we have something special for them, but you MUST sign up in advance. We will need you to RSVP by April 30th. We hope to see you there!
Finally, I want to remind everyone that your child's attendance is crucial to their success. You are the one who sets the example of the importance of an education. Being to school on time and attending every day says that you care about their education and overall well-being. We are here for you and your child and look forward to seeing them every day.
Together, we give our children the roots to grow and the wings to fly. Thank you for your partnership and have a wonderful week.
In service with you,
Rhonda Lopez
P.S Please remember, that you MUST have a photo ID or passport to enter the building and pick up your child for dismissal. This is a REQUIREMENT of all LCPS schools and buildings.
Upcoming Assessments:
MAP:
Tuesday, April 23rd: 4th & 5th grade Science
Thursday, May 2nd: 1st-3rd Science SGA
VKRP: Kindergarten parents ONLY
LCPS will be administering the Early Mathematics Assessment System (EMAS): Mathematics test and the Child Behavior Rating Scale (CBRS): Self-Regulation and Social Skills checklist as part of the Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program (VKRP) to Kindergarten students this Spring.
VKRP helps families better understand what school readiness means. VKRP gives you and your child’s teacher a more comprehensive picture of school readiness across four key domains: mathematics, literacy (PALS), self-regulation, and social skills. It provides information teachers can use to effectively individualize instruction and partner with you to help support your child’s school success.
Tests will be administered individually during the school day, with score reports available after all testing has been completed.
VALLS: Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd grade parents ONLY
VALLSS is an updated screening tool that will replace the formerly administered PALS (Phonological Awareness Literacy Screener). VALLSS is more comprehensive and assesses students on a wider range of early literacy skills. Results are used to determine individual children’s learning goals, plan classroom instruction, and raise awareness of children who need additional support or instruction in early reading and literacy. Focusing on early detection and early intervention of reading difficulties is a required state-wide policy (Early Intervention Reading Initiative).
SOL Tests: 3rd, 4th and 5th grade parents ONLY
LCPS will be administering Spring Non Writing SOL tests to students in grades 3-12 from May 9 - June 3, 2022. Tests are administered as part of the Virginia Assessment Program and provide useful data to parents, teachers, and school administrators on what students have learned during instruction.
Students must use their LCPS issued device for testing. Please make sure your student’s chromebook has the most recent version of Chrome before any scheduled SOL tests. Directions on how to ensure your student’s device receives all LCPS required updates can be found here. If you need technical assistance with your student’s device, please reach out to your school’s Digital Experience Specialist or the Department of Digital Innovation at 571-252-2112.
