Newsletters are designed to inform, share, celebrate and update. This one does for sure as there is so much going on in this newsletter...from learning to sports and from celebrations to updates! Please have a good read.
Macleans Primary School Community
Hi Everyone
Term 4 at MPS has started with learning, values, laughter, collaboration and more! It has been lovely seeing all the children with huge smiles on their faces and the teachers doing what they do best - teaching!
As we wind down and finish with a few projects, notably the spellathon and school parking lot, we begin to wind up with PTA fundraising, hall development & design, R6-R9 refurbishment planning and more. Classroom learning is focused and purposeful, with an emphasis on the learning being creative, interesting and dynamic. Many different activities have been planned, from Athletics Day to the end of Term Prize-givings. Please keep abreast of all the activities through our communication channels.
The PTA do a remarkable job for Macleans primary School. They work very hard for all of us, fundraising and supporting in many areas around the school. Perhaps you are keen to find more about what the PTA does? Come along to the next PTA meeting next week, Tuesday 1 November, at 7.30 pm in the staffroom. All welcome!
Diwali celebrations begun a couple of days ago (see the feature in this newsletter) and are in full-swing this week. For those of you celebrating Diwali we wish you a 'Happy Diwali'. For those of us enjoying all the colour and fun associated with Diwali (I know I am!), let's enjoy it as it is a great reminder of what a wonderful country we live in where we can recognise and celebrate all the different cultures that we share together, especially at Macleans Primary which is a great microcosm for wider New Zealand! :)))
A reminder that school photos are next week, Wednesday 2 November, and the notice from photolife was sent home yesterday (Tuesday 25 October) with your child. No doubt there will be a few 'getting ready for photos' haircuts and uniform checks in prep. for the photos. Two days later on Friday 4 November you can forget the school uniforms and haircuts as there will be a gold coin donation 'Whacky Shoe & Sock' Cazh Day. The money raised will go towards the mental health charity Gumboot Friday.
I received some very good news the other day. A few months ago the year 6 students completed a 'Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study'. I am excited, pleased and proud to say that our Year 6 students scored considerably higher in the maths and science testing! Super work year 6 students. All teachers, parents and students at Macleans Primary should be proud of this!
Please review the 'Dates for Your Diary' below. Term 4 is traditionally the 'busiest' in terms of extra-curricula activities. We endeavour to keep you as informed as possible, so please check Macleans Primary Website, facebook page, skool loop app, seesaw, emails home and your child's bag for notices
And if you had not heard me say it enough...'Hats on Heads' from yesterday for all children, including to and from school!
Please enjoy this newsletter.
Regards & Nga Mihi

Foodbank Donations: 'Tins for Tokens' (House Tokens) - Beginning NOW Until the End of Term
Over the years the Macleans primary School community has been able to provide our local foodbanks with non-perishable food items, mainly donated from families. Once again we are a 'drop-off' point for non-perishable food items. Children can bring the food item to their class and they will receive a house token in return.
Parking: Pick-up & Drop-Off on Udall Place
The school's back entrance is accessed through Udall Place. Although not as popular for a pick-up and drop-off point, Udall Place can get quite busy after-school. Please ensure we park/drop-off/pick-up in a respectful manner and avoid parking over driveways.
Happy Diwali!
