Dear parents and carers.
Another busy week at Kirk Fenton! It has been lovely to see how excited children have been about their forest school sessions. There has been so much great learning and teamwork happening whenever I have been out to see them. My Symes and the rest of the staff have been particularly impressed at the resilience displayed when children have had to work hard to be successful, and also at the enthusiasm on display when faced with a challenge. There will be another Forest School week in the summer term. Mr Symes is working hard to continue to develop the area, and we are very grateful for the donations we have received from parents and the local community.
The week ended with a fantastic Rashford class assembly, where they shared some of the great learning they have done this term. I was blown away by how confidently and clearly they spoke to the audience. As a school. we are currently focusing on oracy, so we can help our children express themselves in an appropriate manner in different situations; it was great to see such young children understanding the need to be loud and proud! The next class worship will be Jean King's on the morning of Friday 19th April.
It has been a week of illness amongst staff and pupils. Thank you for understanding the importance of children being in school, but also the need to keep them at home if they are too unwell to reduce the spread of germs. It can be very difficult to know first thing in the morning if your child is well enough to be in school. Rest assured that we will always ring you if we feel they need to go home. We are giving children lots of regular reminders about the importance of good hand-washing and how to catch sneezes and coughs in a tissue so germs aren't spread. Hopefully the upcoming Easter break will give everyone a chance to rest and recuperate.
I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Message from Head Pupils
This week each class has had a fantastic day at forest school, on our very own field. Every class enjoyed it and there were lots of fabulous activities such as den building, nordick braiding and woodwork; to name a few. Everybody got really muddy, and some even got soaked!
Rashford did a fantastic job of their class worship today whilst the new chrome books have gone down a treat as year 6 tried them out in their computing lessons.
Head Pupil Awards go to Scarlett (Y3) and Toby (YR)
Freddie & Ella
It is great to see more people using Numbots and TTR at home. Remember that you should be going on for at least 20 minutes each week as part of your homework and I have offered an extra playtime to any class that manages to have each person working for 10 minutes over the week. Will it be your class next week?
Start with Art - Science Competition
Explorify, who are an excellent science resource we use at school, are holding a science competition for Science week. The competition is to coincide with the release of a new resource on their website called 'Start with Art'. This activity gives the children a piece of artwork which aims to spark discussion about the science behind the artwork.
To enter this competition, they must create a piece of art which they feel would spark discussion about science. They can use any medium to create this (painting, drawing, models, photograph, computer generated etc). Competition entries must be accompanied by a short paragraph (up to 150 words) that explains the science behind the artwork.
The children need to give their artwork and the short paragraph to school by the 21st of March 2024.
Three children 7 years and under will be picked and three children 8 and over will be picked and entered into the competition. If they are successful, they will receive a £50 book token and their artwork will become an Start with Art activity on the Explorify website.
Any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Good luck!
