Pyotr llyich Tchaikovsky was born on May 7,1840 and died on November 6 1893. Tchaikovsky was the most famous Russian composer in history. His work includes the Sleeping Beauty and the Nutcracker. When Tchaikovsky was 5 yrs old he started taking piano lessons even though he displayed an early passion for music. His parents were hoping when he grew up he would take work in the civil service. At the age of 10, Tchaikovsky began attending the Imperial school of. His mother, Alexandra, died of cholera in 1854, when he was at the age of 14. When he was 21 he decided to take music lessons at the Russian musical society. In 1877 he married a young student named Antonina Milyukova. The wedding was a disaster, with Tchaikovsky leaving his wife for several weeks before the wedding.
