MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Greetings MVCSD Community,
Our scholars had the opportunity to see a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle this week, and they learned so much from it! Our administrators and teachers did a fantastic job developing lessons about the solar eclipse and making this a learning experience for students in all grade levels. In the Mount Vernon City School District, we utilize so many different methods of teaching, and learning about the eclipse at school, then viewing it, was a fun way for our students to learn about our solar system.
Women’s History Month ended in March, but there are so many successful women from Mount Vernon that deserve to be celebrated. This week, I would like to recognize Danielle R. Browne, Esq., a Mount Vernon High School Class of 2006 graduate. She has accomplished great things as an attorney and as a council person for the City of Mount Vernon. I am always delighted to see the amazing things our graduates achieve, and Danielle is a prime example of the achievement that consistently comes out of our schools.
Thank you to all the families who came to the family math night at Nelson Mandela/Dr. Hosea Zollicoffer School. It is great to see families involved with their children’s education and school community. Having fun with your children and learning about math is a great way to spend the night, and I look forward to seeing more families at our future events! Our partnership with parents is vital for the success of our scholars, and we appreciate your commitment and support.
Kindest Regards,
Dr. K. Veronica Smith
Acting Superintendent of Schools
CECIL H. PARKER SCHOOL PREPARES FOR SOLAR ECLIPSE
Students and staff at Cecil H. Parker School spent the day preparing for a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle on Monday, April 8, 2024. They were given solar eclipse glasses courtesy of Principal Jacqueline Green in preparation for the day’s celestial event. Teachers throughout the school created lesson plans, such as creating solar eclipse books, to teach students about the spectacular event and how to safely partake.
OUR STUDENTS, NOW: DANIELLE R. BROWNE, ESQ.
