Introduction
Whoosh! the squid darts away, leaving behind it a trail of ink. This is an example of the squids security system, the way it protects itself from predators. Squid are amazing animals, but the knowledge of their origins is limited. Let’s go unlock the mystery!
Movement
The way squids move is amazing. Squids can’t swim like us, they can only dart away at an amazing 25 body lengths a second or only drifting with the currents. Squids can move very fast thanks to their amazing bodies. They can squirt water out of a hole near their face at a amazing speed, almost as fast as 300 mph! That is why it moves so fast.
Color And texture
The squid has no definitive color, but most pictures show them as pink. The truth is that the squid has billions of tiny pigment cells all over its body, and they are controlled by miniscule muscles. It is amazing to think that the squid can change color into anything. Squids can also change the feeling of their skin by raising tiny flaps and bumps.
Habitat
Squids can be found all over the world, but they cannot be found in inland bodies of water, and near the poles. Most squid can be found between 40 and 60 feet, but the giant squid and the bioluminescent squid can be found at depths more like 1,300 feet! The giant squid is a huge mass of skin and looks like a lump of stringy pasta. Regular squid are smaller, with small tentacles.
Closing
As you now see, squid are amazing animals that truly deserve to be researched more, and are the coolest mollusks I know about. From the tip of its arm to the top of its head, squid are filled with surprises. Squid are the best animals around the ocean!
