Animals Gone Forever
By Ellie Gollner
Gone...Forever
Have you seen a wooly mammoth walking around recently? Or what about a quagga? Probably not because those animals are extinct. Did you know that the last quagga died August 12 1883? And what is even worse, the people at the zoo didn't know that was the last quagga. Sad, right? I think that we should figure out a different way to help endangered species not have as large of a chance for that species to go extinct.

Endangered=No Hunting
Imagine if your pet just died! Your beloved best friend, gone... forever. Think of your pet multiplying by thousands to millions and they all died... even more depressing! That's like a whole entire species being wiped off the face of the earth. Have you ever heard of the dodo bird, a funny named species of animal that went extinct due to loss of habitat and hunting? Hunters don't have to stop hunting animals like deer and other animals that people know aren't close to extinction, but they should stop hunting endangered animals close to being gone forever. I think that more people should make it harder for people to hunt endangered animals.
It's Our Fault?
There are many ways humans make animals go extinct, for example, habitat loss. You have probably heard that people have been cutting down trees in the Rain Forest, but did you ever think of the animals cutting down trees are killing animals? A tree, right now, could be cut down and falling on a red eyed tree frog. Another way animals are going extinct because of human actions is hunting endangered or threatened species. I think this is a horrible act, for all of you know you could be killing the last of its kind, a lonely rhino walking when it's life stops before it should have. And last, introduction to animals that kill that animals like them. It's like showing an unprotected mouse to a large snake hungry for a nice tasty snack, what do think is going to happen? Obviously, that mouse is going to end up eaten. No, that tiny little mouse is not going to be the first mouse to kill a snake!
Something more Interesting
Did you know that half of the species on this planet will probably go extinct in 75 years? Do you want to learn about those species? I know I would! Here are some facts about endangered and extinct species. Did you know the endangered snow Leopard can jump 6 times it's own length? They are found in 12 different countries. Now this is just sad, 540 Amur Tigers left in the world? (And to think I once thought that was a large amount!) And there once was only 40 left in the world! We helped them, their numbers used to be less than 100 Amur Tigers and now there are more than half of 1,000 left! I think we should help animals like the Amur Leopard with only 40-70 adults left have what happened to to the Amur Tiger. We helped the Amur Tiger, why not other animals?

Let's Help
What do you think? Do you think we should help endangered animals, so they don't end up like the quagga? I feel that animals deserve to be on this earth just like humans do. We may be able to do things animals can't, but they deserve to be here. Animals are wonderful and helpful, they do more things than just sit and eat, trust me. Animal deserve to be on this earth just as much as humans do. How would you feel if you were the last human on earth?
