Pumpkin Fun
Mrs. Sayre helped us with our writing lesson on transition words. She demonstrated how to cut open a pumpkin, clean it out, and then carve a face on it. We took notes and used the transition words : first, then, next and last. We put the pumpkin outside for the animals to nibble on it.
Table names
New seats means picking a new name for our table. We worked together to come up with things we have in common and put it on a poster to hang over our table.
Reading
We are beginning to discuss the main ideas and details of fiction books. To introduce this concept the children were given words on cards and they had to sort by category. They had to come up with the title for the category (Main Idea) The word cards were the details.
Buddies
We did a tear art project with our buddies. The 5th graders traced the arm and hand of the 1st grader to make a tree, then together, they tore lots of construction paper to make fall leaves.
Math
Looking for equal equations for the commutative property of addition.
Coding
We were introduced to coding using a grid and a programmable mouse. The children had to pick where they wanted to go on the grid, then program the mouse and watch it go!
Writing
Taking time to share our stories helps us get ideas and get some positive feedback!
