The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza interprets the life, death and legacy of President John F. Kennedy. Now, through interactive, inquiry-based virtual learning programs, you and your students can experience history through careful examination of the photographs, films and artifacts in the Museum's collection of more than 60,000 items. These programs also connect students with "living history" speakers: eyewitnesses, law enforcement officials, journalists, physicians and others with direct memories of the Kennedy assassination. A selection of engaging programs provide opportunities for students to meet the Museum's curatorial, collections and education staff, prompting thoughtful discussions on U.S. history, world history, the Civil Rights Movement, oral history and the role of the historian! All programs are TEKS aligned, and meet national history standards.

Conflicting Evidence: 24 Hours After the Kennedy Assassination
Grades 4-12
Students become crime scene investigators, evaluating evidence found within the first 24 hours of the assassination of President Kennedy. Students will study primary source documents and images to determine their accuracy and gain a better understanding of what transpired on November 22, 1963. After reviewing the evidence and information provided, students will create a final report detailing their findings.

President Kennedy encouraged citizens of all ages to be actively involved in their communities and participate in civic discourse. Students will take on issues of the 1960s, examining their connections to current events before engaging in mini–debates.
Forensics and the Assassination of President Kennedy: 60th Anniversary Program

The assassination of President Kennedy on November 22, 1963, was a complicated investigation for law enforcement officials in Dallas and Washington, D.C. Join The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza for a discussion on the forensic evidence gathered and analyzed in the days, weeks, months and years after the assassination. Explore primary sources such as photographs, documents and eyewitness accounts to learn about the use of several types of forensic analysis and compare them to techniques used today.

History Detectives: 1960s Time Capsules
Grades: 3-8
Cost: $125
Engage your students’ detective skills to uncover time capsules created from the Museum’s collection of 1960s artifacts. Learn about President Kennedy and the 1960s by examining primary source materials including photographs, magazines, toys, clothing and more. Students will work in groups to unpack a time capsule and discover information about the person who packed it and then share their discoveries.
Inside the Museum: A Virtual Tour
Grades: 4-8 and 9-12

Embark on a virtual tour of The Sixth Floor Museum’s permanent exhibit where students explore President Kennedy’s life and legacy. The Museum’s Education staff will highlight objects currently on display in addition to items from our permanent collection. Using engaging and interactive discussion, students will gain a deeper understanding of President Kennedy’s tragic assassination and the lasting impact of his leadership not only in the United States but around the globe.
Topics highlighted during this program include the 1960 presidential campaign, Kennedy's New Frontier policy, the Cold War, the Civil Rights Movement and the November 1963 trip to Texas.
President Kennedy and the Trip to Texas: 60th Anniversary Program
Grades: 6-12

Join The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza for a conversation about the importance of President Kennedy's November 1963 visit to Texas. Using historic photographs and objects, students will follow the presidential party throughout Texas from San Antonio, Houston and Fort Worth to discover how the President used each city to highlight important issues of the day including the Space Race, Cold War and 1960s presidential campaigns. Participants will learn about the assassination of President Kennedy in Dallas on November 22, 1963, and how it impacted the nation, especially Texans who had welcomed him to their state less than 24 hours earlier.

Resistance: Civil Rights and Kennedy's Legacy
Grades 6-12
Cost: $125In the 1960s, the Civil Rights Movement was a major focus of change in the United States. During his presidency, Kennedy saw several protests and acts of discrimination throughout the country, leading to his televised address to the nation on civil rights in June 1963. Students will analyze primary sources and explore several approaches used to protest discrimination while exploring Kennedy’s impact on the Civil Rights Movement during and after his presidency.
