Principal Message
Greetings from Westside Elementary,
March is certainly coming in like a lamb, so letโs enjoy this mild weather because if this old adage comes true we are in for not so good weather going into April. Besides spring coming early, we are also entering our 4th quarter if you can believe it! Some of your โbabiesโ are finishing their 1st year of full day school and will be 1st graders in no time! While some of your other โbabiesโ are entering their last quarter as elementary students. The end of the year is a mixture of excitement and sadnessโฆ kind of like our weather. For this newsletter, we will focus on all the excitement coming up instead of the sad parts.
I would say the MOST exciting events happening in March are our music concerts! We have our spring concerts the week of the 18th. I have seen our kindergartners practicing and they are going to be amazing! I havenโt had a chance to see the other grades rehearse, but Iโve seen their songs and they are super fun. Depending on how many students you have and their grade levels, some parents have multiple days and nights with us, but I like to think the busy week is worth it to see how amazing our students look and sound.
After concert week we steamroll right into state Forward testing. I was one of those students that actually enjoyed taking tests. I was and still am pretty competitive, and from a young age I enjoyed tests to see how much I had learned. I know I am an exception, and many of our students get stressed out over these tests. At school, our staff does their best to focus on effort, and showing their growth over time to make this time exciting, not stressful. Our students and staff have been working very hard over the past 6 months and have a lot to show for it. The Forward exam is simply evidence of all that hard work. That being said, please look for the testing schedule from your 3rd and 4th grade teachers. The more you can schedule around that, the better it is for your child. If they miss a testing session, they have to make it up and they lose out on something that is more fun than taking the test! Thank you in advance for your flexibility.
We hope you enjoy the weather and see you in a few weeks!
Jonathan
