Professional Development Plan
Developing with technology
Why it's Important to Stay up to date on technology?
Without adequate support and motivation educators will retreat to not using technology
Ways to develop!
- Participate in mentoring programs for various types of technology. If you already know a lot about the certain program technology act as the mentor leader and teach the others who are still developing their knowledge about that type of program or technology.
- Participate in various conferences. Throughout the year there are various technology conferences offered within your state and all over the country! These experiences are a great way to connect with people outside of your district.
- Become a part of professional organizations. Professional organizations allow stay up to date on technology in the classroom. Many organizations provide you with news and updates from around the country but also how teachers are using technology to address things such as common core standards.
- Volunteer to test new programs or technology. There's nothing more fun/frustrating than being the first to test out a new piece of technology in your classroom! It may be frustrating at first but working through it and learning will help you to become a a better coach when teaching the program to others.
- Collaborate with others in the building/district. Collaborating with others is key to developing. Others may teach you things you never knew about certain programs and you might be able to share some knowledge that you have.
My Personal Plan
- I plan to become a part of various technology integration organizations that will allow me to learn more about effectively integrating technology into the every day classroom. examples:
Edutopia "The George Lucas Educational Foundation (GLEF) is a nonprofit operating foundation dedicated to promoting a vision of inspired learning and teaching – where students are challenged and engaged (love that!), have access to interactive technologies, and are supported by inspired teachers and involved parents and communities. Edutopia spotlights classrooms where innovations are taking place."
International Society for Technology in Education "The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE®) is a nonprofit professional organization with a worldwide membership of leaders and potential leaders in educational technology. We are dedicated to providing leadership and service to improve teaching and learning by advancing the effective use of technology in K–12 education and teacher education."
eMINTS National Center "The eMINTS Professional Development Program changes how teachers teach and students learn. Its instructional model provides a research-based approach to organizing instruction and can be implemented in any subject area at any level."
- I will participate in mentoring programs. I am not sure whether or not there are mentoring programs in my future district of employment but if there is I would like to take on the role of being a mentor for other when it comes to technology. I want to be able to help others if they have any questions and coach them through new technologies. Also as a mentor is important to advocate for me mentees and be their voice incase they have any technological requests. If there is no mentoring program this is a great website to help me establish one! http://www.scholastic.com/teachers/article/policies-practices-mentoring-and-coaching-teachers
- I will become an advocate for providing the Special Education Department with technology
- I will create a plan and do my research to see the possibility of getting iPads for my school http://www.ipadinschools.com/111/grants-for-ipads-in-schools/
- I plan to take advantage of any technology conferences offered through my future school district.
- Look for opportunities for myself to give presentations about various pieces of technologies or even a presentation on how to set up technology mentoring programs within schools. A lot of the organizations I hope to become a part of include teachers just like me who give these public presentations. I would like to work through these organizations to be given the opportunity to coach my peers in a technological presentation.
- I will propose certain conferences the district should use that will give teachers in the district more information about certain programs or technologies that we use in the classroom.
- I would like to attend these conferences in the future:

New York State Association for Computers and Technology in Education: NYSCATE Conference
