HOLY ROSARY NEWSLETTER
Term 3 Week 6 Friday 27 August
FROM MARK
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Another week of freedom, for which we are so grateful.
Last week’s Science incursion from Scitech was well received by the children and we thank Ms Skinner for arranging it, together with the great butter marathon! Tanya and the children from across all classes made butter and flavoured it. Some of the flavour combinations will probably never be seen outside the classroom but were fabulous fun to make!
Today’s Book Week Parade up in the gym was a hoot! The variety of costumes just took your breath away - how amazing! Thank you to Holly Butson, library administrator and pastoral worker - student well-being for organising this joy filled event! Thank you also to the parents and guardians who encouraged their children to get into the spirit of the day.
Next Friday see the Fathers Day Breakfast. Followed by the Year One assembly. What a morning! We hope to see you then.
Have a great weekend

SICK CHILDREN
Again, thank you so much for keeping sick children away from school. They recover more quickly and really reduce the risk of spread. It makes a huge difference and we really appreciate it.

VISIT FROM CHRISTINE TONKIN MLA, member for Churchlands
We were pleased to receive a visit from Christine on Monday. She was very supportive of our Art Show, purchased the class piece completed by Year Two Catherine, and – at the request of the P&F – paid for the pinup boards used for the exhibition. We thank her very much for her interest in and support for our school. It means a great deal.
CAR PARK SAFETY
The last piece of the puzzle has been completed. The crosswalk from the school ramp down to the Church steps and the Church ramp has been painted. Thank you so much for adhering to the flow and parking expectations of the car park. It makes life safer and easier for everyone .

TEACHER GET TO KNOW YOU - ANTHONY D'ALOIA
Who was your favourite teacher in school and why?
My Year Seven teacher, Mr Tony Murphy. He entered me in the school’s annual Pasta Eating Competition in 1997, where I finished in first place and came home with a basket full of Italian fine foods. I don’t think my mother’s ever been prouder of me.
Is there anything you wished would come back into fashion?
The handkerchief tied into four knots at the corners and worn as a hat. I really feel it wasn’t given a proper chance.
Do you love or hate rollercoasters?
I can’t stand them. I usually say I have a heart condition or that my doctor says it’s best that I don’t go on them, just to get out of riding them.
What’s your favourite family tradition?
Sunday lunch which brings gnocchi, lasagne, cutlets and all stove burners flaming Bessemer pots…. And the arguments, which get started over nothing.
Who would you want to play you in a movie of your life?
Al Pacino. The only guy who’d do a good job.
What’s your favourite zoo animal?
The African Lion. I went to the Western Plains Zoo earlier this year and stood there watching them in awe for about twenty minutes. They’re such majestic creatures.
What was the last book you read?
The Magic School Bus Inside the Human Body. Bridget really wanted me to read it to her the other day during silent reading.
If you could choose to do anything for a day, what would it be?
Visit my parents in our hometown in Italy and head around to some of the neighbouring villages, soaking in all the sites, vineyards and local restaurants.
If you were a super-hero, what powers would you have?
To be able to turn water into extra virgin olive oil.

Showcasing some of Australia’s top interior brands alongside Gemma’s own soft furnishing pieces, Asbury Park brings out the ‘want factor’ in all of us. Ideal for a beautiful last minute gift or a stand out piece to refresh your décor.
From exquisite original artwork to custom furniture, a feature vase, scented candle, woven basket, jewellery, a totally original cushion or a lush throw – Asbury Park has it all.
Gemma’s space is a true reflection of herself. Warm, bright, bubbly and full of style. Be inspired and benefit from her expert advice whilst not even noticing that you’re actually having a really good time and good old laugh.
Gift Hampers are also a specialty of Gems – give her a budget, a brief and she’ll work some magic. A huge help for those collaborative presents (teachers end of year/coaches etc) so something to keep in mind.

MDH Legal – Legal – Osborne Park (Melissa Dixon)
MDH Legal is a boutique legal practice servicing clients in relation to Property Law, Conveyancing, Settlements, Estate Law, Probates, Power of Attorney(s), Will and Inheritance matters.
A large division of MDH primarily focuses on settlements and conveyancing. So when buying or selling a property, whether it be residential or commercial give them a call and they will help you through the process.
HAVE YOU GOT YOUR WILLS SORTED? Something I think about every New Year and luckily for me, another main focus of MDH.
Melissa has kindly also offered a preferred rate to our Holy Rosary community so be sure to mention where you’re from when you get in touch.
Sonic Learning – Learning Programs – Woodlands (Claire Hutchinson)
Claire’s story is really quite awesome. Having struggled at school herself and been diagnosed at 20 with an Auditory Processing Disorder, she’s made it her life’s work to help kids in similar situations.
Now as an Occupational Therapist, Claire works with other health and education professionals to deliver programs that help children with listening, language, memory and attention difficulties. Sonic Learning’s programs address the underlying cause of learning difficulties rather than band-aiding the symptoms.
Claire has a true passion for what she does and an obvious soft spot for kids (with her 4th on the way). Appreciating that the two biggest limitations for young families are time are money, Sonic is committed to helping you invest both wisely.
Sonic offers a free phone consultation with a learning professional to discuss your child’s needs. If you feel their services might help your child, jump online or give Claire a call to find out more www.soniclearning.com.au

We would just like to take this opportunity to thank our Holy Rosary community for all your support and assistance so far this year. We couldn’t do any of this without you all.
Thank you 😊

Science Week at Holy Rosary
Last week was National Science Week which means that science was highlighted in all schools across Australia. The theme was 'Food by Design'
At our school, the children from many classes had an opportunity to make butter with a flavour of their choice. We placed cream in a jar, added a flavour of choice, then shook the jar until the buttermilk and the butter separated.
If the children wanted to, they had an option to taste the butter they had designed and made. The junior primary mostly made butter with chocolate chips! whereas the older children were a bit more adventurous with curry, herb and garlic butter being made. (Ms Skinner ensured everything was hygenic and safe for each class).
Junior classes learned about how potatoes are farmed, and the older children watched a very interesting video explaining how food waste is turned into electricity. This video came from the bio station at Cockburn. You may wish to view it:
We also had fun designing our favourite delicious sandwich. The fillings were very creative! (For years 2 and above, please check Seesaw to see what your child designed)
On Wednesday 18th Scitech visited with a Super Science Show that children from Kindy to Year 6 got to view. The theme was Chemical Sciences with the shows entitled 'Mix and Make' and 'Element of Surprise'. The favourite 'Elephant's toothpaste' was made as was 'fluffy paint' and a bubble bath mixture. The children really enjoyed the shows!
