April 9, 2024
Dear TUFSD Families and Staff,
First, I would like to thank our families and staff for helping to make yesterday’s eclipse a safe, enjoyable, and educational event for our students. It was a teachable moment for everyone and it was great that we were able to experience this phenomenon together. What a great way to make memories that will last a lifetime.
Secondly, I would like to say that April is a wonderful month to appreciate Earth and all it has to offer. There will be many opportunities to focus on our environment through various activities and events. I hope everyone gets the chance to participate in them as we make strides in “Building a Better Tomorrow” for our community.
Lastly, I would like to congratulate all of our students for all of their hard work. From our talented students who put on quite the show in their rendition of Cinderella. The performance was fantastic and truly showcased all of their talents. To our student-athletes who have been displaying their abilities as they delve into the spring season. Our Horsemen have been demonstrating just how strong they are as in various sports. Keep up the good work everyone.
As always thank you all for your continued support of the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns and for your help in “Building a Better Tomorrow” for our students.
Sincerely,
Dr. Raymond Sanchez

Budget Update
As we approach the beginning of spring, your district administrative team and Board of Education has been hard at work on the formation of the proposed school budget for 2024-25. The annual vote will take place this year on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.
During the upcoming Board of Education Meeting, we will continue to discuss our proposed 2024-2025 school district budget. We anticipate the Board of Education adopting the budget on April 16th. Over the course of the upcoming weeks, we will seek to provide our community with information. We will also update our website with relevant information.
Facilities Update
Over the course of the past few weeks, we have been meeting with our architects and construction manager to finalize the plans we intend to submit for the first phase of the bond project (Morse School and WI field replacement). We remain on target to meet our goal for submission.
Also, the district intends to submit proposals for two available NYSERDA grants. If successful, these grants will help us to address various needs throughout the district and ensure we continue to focus on cleaner energy.
United Way After-School Programming
Earlier this year, we informed the community that we can offer after-school programming for scholars at Morse School with grant funds from the United Way. While waiting for final approval, we recently learned that we can proceed with our after-school program at Morse School. As previously shared, this program is designed to offer a broad spectrum of opportunities, ranging from academic enrichment, such as STEM activities, to youth development, social-emotional support, and engaging family activities such as yoga, mindfulness, nutrition, health and fitness sessions, and artistic endeavors. United Way will meet at Morse this Thursday with their new educational director, Dr. Orozco, and Mr. Walley to discuss logistics further.

English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics New York State Assessments
We are one week away from the Grades 3-8 English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics New York State Assessments. These assessments are designed to measure your child’s progress on literacy and mathematical understanding standards outlined by the New York State Standards.
For ELA and Mathematics students will be asked to respond to multiple-choice, short-answer, and extended-response questions. As in the past, the assessments are untimed and students will take each test in two consecutive sessions. Unless otherwise noted, all assessments are computer-based tests, i.e., students take the test on a computer.
All assessments will begin at the start of the school day. Thank you in advance for having your child to school on time. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s school.
Research shows that well-rested students who have a nutritious breakfast perform better on school work and assessments. Please ensure that your child sleeps well the nights before each assessment and eats a nutritious breakfast each morning if your child has breakfast at home. As always, we will ensure that students who have breakfast at school enjoy a healthy breakfast each morning.
Mock Regents Examination
High School Students: As we approach the end of the school year, your child will continue preparations for the New York State Regents Examination in English. The months of May and June are a crucial time for our students as they prepare to take this exam, especially as it is a graduation requirement.
To best prepare our students for the Regents Examination, the English Department will hold a Mock Regents Examination on Saturday, April 27th. This examination will begin promptly at 9:00 AM and should end by 12:15 PM. Students should report to the cafeteria at 8:45. Students who finish the exam early will be allowed to leave.
The Mock Regents examination will be graded by the English Department and the results will be shared with the students; in particular, we will be using the Mock Regents to pinpoint areas in need of growth and improvement. English teachers are volunteering their time and effort, and we hope that you will encourage your child to attend the English Mock Regents.
Please indicate whether or not your child will attend the Mock Regents by following the Google Form link or scanning the QR Code below. WE NEED ALL RESPONSES BY FRIDAY, APRIL 19TH AT 5PM to accommodate all students interested in attending. Thank you.

Digital Equity Survey
Dear Parent/Guardian, The Public Schools of the Tarrytowns is committed to digital access for all of our students. Collecting accurate data regarding digital resource access for our New York students will greatly help educators to better serve their students and families. In order to accomplish this, the New York State Education Department is asking parents or guardians to complete a Digital Equity survey (for each student in the family) in grades Kindergarten – Grade 12. This survey will provide information on student access to devices and internet access in their places of residence. To assist us in this process, please answer each question in this survey. Thank you for your support with this process.
