2016 Happy New Year! 2016
I hope your New Year is off to a happy, healthy start! During the next two days I will be getting ready for 3rd quarter and learning about new technology in our district. Hopefully, I'll have some great new tech-y tricks to try out in our classroom! See you Wednesday!!!
America and our Community, Kindergarten Unit 5
We will begin this fun unit by learning about the people in our community, jobs, vehicles and tools used by community helpers. We will collect facts about community helpers to do some informative writing.
As we work through this unit we will expand understanding of the world from our community to our state, Missouri, our country, America, and Earth.
Reading - We will work on making predictions about the text. We will be reading and writing about community helpers. As we read we will try to ask and answer questions for better understanding.

Our reading strategy is, Flippy the Dolphin. Try using the long or short vowel sound to help sound out unknown words.
Vocabulary Words - community helper, fact
Sight Words - all, saw, help (thank you for all the extra sight word practice at home!)
Writing - We are using sight words and phonetic spelling to write information about community helpers.
Phonics - We are focusing on all the vowel letters a, e, i, o & u. We are also practicing reading and writing consonant vowel consonant (cvc) words.
Math - Keep using the hundreds chart in your child's FROG folder to help them practice counting and writing numbers to 100. Practice counting by ones, fives and tens.
We are continuing Math Topic 7 Understanding Addition.
