This Week at CCES
January 20 - 24
Our campus attendance goal is 98%. This week we are at 94.75%
Value the Vote
In our democracy, voting is a right of the citizens. Most of us know, however, that not all registered voters go to the polls during elections. In fact, according to the Texas Secretary of State, in 2016 only 59% of registered voters in Texas voted in the 2016 elections.
I recently read a blog that reminded educators that our responsibility is to raise great citizens, not just great students. Our state standards require educators to teach about citizenship, the election process, and voting. However, family members can play a significant role in creating future voters by talking about the electoral process, by conversing about candidates and their roles and responsibilities, and by taking their child with them to the polls.
As we approach the election cycle, I encourage all of you to take the time to learn about the candidates who are running for office. Be an informed voter by attending public candidate forums and visiting the Texas League of Women Voters or the Secretary of State’s websites for information about the candidates. Explore the candidate’s positions about public education and the priorities that are important to you and your family. In other words, don’t just be a voter… be an educated voter.
Finally, if you are not registered to vote or you have recently moved to our area and need to update your voter registration, I can help. As a Deputy Voter Registrar, I can help you complete the paperwork and submit the documents for you. Note that the deadline to register to vote is February 3 for the March primaries.
Get out and vote in 2020!
Love,
Ms. Nail

Dearest Donors,
The Cub Closet has only officially been open two weeks and I wanted to share and express my gratitude for its success. This rainy week the Cub Closet has managed to turn soggy days into rainbows just by relieving the stress of learning with uncomfortable wet socks or clothing. Embarrassing slips in mud or accidents in the cafeteria are now a brief trip to the Cub Closet thanks to your support and donations. Please continue to drop off items or if you have questions about acceptable items please contact Melanie Bostic in the front office or me at 830-357-4407.
Hugs,
Mrs. Zuniga
