News You Can Use!
The Book Fair is Coming!
Our annual "Spring" Book Fair will arrive on February 25th just in time for Spring conferences. Parents and students will be able to shop at the fair during student-led conferences both Feb. 25th and March 1st. Students will also have the opportunity to browse and buy before school each day. This is a great time to pick up books to read over our Spring Break. There is a link below on this page for those interested in getting a jump on reading the Missouri Reader Award nominees.
Cozy Learning Commons
Students are loving this cozy reading space in our Learning Commons. Our book clubs created the fireplace made of books and we have transitioned from a Christmas mantle right into a Valentine one! Thanks to our PTO we have these awesome rockers - a great addition for those kiddos who have a hard time sitting still during quiet reading.
The Power of Pinterest
This terrific bulletin board was inspired by one we saw on Pinterest. If you are not familiar with Pinterest, take a look! There is an endless supply of great ideas that we often use in our Learning Commons and classrooms. Social media rocks!
What I Am Reading
I am currently reading Popular: Vintage Wisdom for a Modern Geek by Maya Van Wagenen . This is a memoir of how Van Wagenen literally followed the advice she found in a 1950's guide to popularity and documented the reults (or lack of). It is a hilarious read! And bonus: this is a 2016-17 Truman Award nominee!
Truman Trivia Team
It is already time to form our 2016 Truman Trivia Team! Truman Trivia is an annual friendly competition between the 5 FHSD middle schools. Each school forms a team of 6 strong Truman readers who compete for a traveling trophy as well as bragging rights! It is a fun day of trivia, friendship and pizza! Interested students should stop by the Learning Commons for more information.
