What's New
March Madness Change Drive
Thank you for all of the generous donations for the March Madness Change Drive! The Elementary Student Council raised $1252.18 during the "change only" drive. We were very surprised to collect such a large amount of money and the student council decided to give half to Lakeland Animal Shelter and the other half to Tree House. Thank you for participating.
Jaycees Easter Egg Hunt
The Jaycees is hosting an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 30 at 10:30 AM. The hunt will be at Seminary Park for children ages: 02, 3-4, 5-7, 8-10. If the weather is poor, the hunt will be at the Lake Geneva YMCA.
Referendum Fact of the Week!
Each week from now until April 2, we’ll take this opportunity to educate our families on the upcoming Operating Referendum.
The Williams Bay School District is joining 69 other districts (so far) across the State of Wisconsin in asking voters for an operational referendum in 2024. As regular increases to state education funding have stagnated, referendum-approved spending that allows school districts to exceed state-imposed spending limits has rapidly increased in the last two decades. In fact, the vast majority of districts — 82% — have turned to a referendum at one point or another in the past three decades. Referendums have become the norm as state leaders want to give local taxpayers a say in education spending and expect schools to go to their local taxpayers in the form of a referendum. The “fiscal cliff” caused by the state funding formula is impacting districts throughout the state, including the Lake Geneva area. Clinton, Delavan, East Troy, Genoa City, Whitewater and Woods schools have already successfully passed operational referendums. Burlington, Fort Atkinson, Lake Geneva Joint 1, Badger, and Walworth have joined us in going to referendum in 2024, with a few more local districts planning to go in November 2024.
Kids Heart Challenge
Thank you for all of your work of raising money for the 2024 Kids Heart Challenge. With all of your efforts we surpassed the school goal of $7276.00 and raised a total of $7771.62. It warms our hearts to know families are learning life-saving skills by participating.
These are the final numbers:
- 65 of 254 students registered (26%)
- 18 of 65 students completed Finn's Mission (28%)
- $7,771.62 was raised- this passed the school goal of $7,276.00
- Our top 3 students were Briella Al, Link H, and Nigeo G

Forward Assessment Grades 3-5
As partners in your child’s education it is important that you are informed and prepared for upcoming events in our school process. One way to determine student preparedness is through assessments, and therefore, in compliance with state statute: Wisconsin will assess students in grades 3-8. Students in these grades will take what is called the Forward Exam. Students in grades 3, 5, 6, and 7 will take assessments in English Language Arts, and Math. Students in grades 4 and 8 will take assessments in English Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, and Science. Students in grade 10 take assessments in Social Studies, and Science. The Forward Exam is administered online and will include multiple choice questions, short answer questions, and written responses. We will be taking the Forward Exam the week of April 8. We will be working to establish testing schedules that will minimize the disruption to the academic schedule.
As with all assessments, we encourage students to take the assessments seriously and to put forth their best effort. The Forward Exam will be one of the state indicators of our school’s academic success and will be the basis for our state school report card. Thanks for your cooperation as we continue our journey to excellence.
Test Taking Tips
The week of April 8, your child will begin taking our state’s standardized test, the Forward assessment.
Let’s work together and make your child’s experience a positive and successful one! We’ve been preparing at school, working on practice questions in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math and practicing how to use the online technology tools that are available on the test.
We have arranged for Taher Food Service to provide healthy snacks to students each day before they take the test. We will also have peppermints available to students while they take the tests.
Here are some suggestions you can do to help everyday:
Ensure your child arrives at school on time.
Have your child eat a healthy breakfast at home or at school.
Ensure your child gets a good night’s sleep.
Gently encourage them to do their best.
Yerkes: Nothing Can Eclipse Community Day
Our Community Day in the Bay is Monday, April 8th from 1- 5pm.

Coat and Jacket Weather for 3K-3rd Grade
We have decided to start a 3K-3rd grade threshold for wearing coats outside. It is very windy on the playground. Students must wear a coat/jacket outside for recess if the temperature is below 50 . When the temperature is between 50-60 at least long sleeves. We will certainly use judgement for the days that the sun is out and the wind is low and coats/jackets may not be necessary. Thank you for your help. Sincerely, 3K-3rd Grade Staff
