Distance Learning Plan
Developing Structure At Home
How We Make This Transition Smooth
When considering what will work best for teaching staff we knew that one of the greatest challenges would be logistics. How do we create time frames that honor each teacher's abilities to be in contact with students? How do we avoid scheduling conflicts?
Because of these two large variables, we have developed a schedule that shares some similarities with our regular school schedule. We felt that creating this structure would keep some consistency that our students are accustomed too. The schedule we put together has components that keep the concept of our regular school day intact but also allows for flexible office hours for teachers to be available for students.
The schedule will not dictate that students and teachers will always be required to meet during the time set on the schedule. What it does is provide the times for teachers to exercise that option without conflict from other teachers. The teachers will communicate with their students about the times they will meet. The flexible hours will allow for additional contact time for tutoring, video virtual classroom discussion, and time to meet other student needs.
It is imperative that we establish communication with all of our students so next week that will be the primary goal. The main format for online learning will be Google classroom. Each Google classroom has its own class code so we will take extra effort in making the connections with all students and parents to share these codes.
If you are a parent or guardian that would prefer traditional delivery of instruction with pencil and paper we will provide the resources to accommodate your needs as well. Please reach out to your teacher or the front office at Palmer High to establish this request.
If you have concerns about connectivity at home, or if you don't have WIFI at home please consider reaching out to MTA and GCI. They are offering free hook up and upgrades that may lead to better support and delivery of your student's education. Refer to the MSBSD website Covid-19 update page for more information.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we develop these processes to help with our distance learning model.
