SUMMARY OF RESEARCH
From five websites that I found I learned a lot about gangs. I Learned that there's many reasons of why people join gangs, but some of the main reasons are that they need protection, they were forced, or they wanted the brotherhood that was lacking in their home life. Additionally I learned about how big the gang problem was, according to www.nationalgangcenter.gov that the number of gangs decreased slowly from 1996 till 2003 and then started to increase and increased until 2012. With 30,700 its almost exactly like it was in 1996. I Also wanted to know What do gangs do? It states at www.dosomething.org that “A gang is a group of people who claim a territory and use it to make money through illegal activities.” They are for the most part involved in violent crimes. Furthermore I wanted to know how can we help solve this national gang problem. I found out that we can prevent youth from joining, Intervene by trying to get kids to leave the gang, and to suppress gang activity through law enforcement. And last of all I wanted to know why are gangs started. according to updsl.org “One of Salt Lake's earliest gangs, Chosen Few, was started by teenagers who were influenced by the movie, "Boulevard Nights," which was portrayed Southern California's Hispanic gang culture.” To end i’m going to say that to me I think that the best way to solve this massive gang problem is to keep kids from joining.
