Helpful hints for spring and summer safety at EW:
Eli Whitney School Practice Guidelines to support safety in the building and on playgrounds and blacktops: Please consider the blacktops and playground equiptment gets very hot on warm sunny days. Also remember the playground has a great deal of woodchips as part of the landscaping which can cause slivers. While we can't predict every case scenerio ,we have a few suggestions to help maintain the safety of our students:
- Sneakers or CROCs vs. flip flops
- Long shorts, pants, sweats and leggings (especially when accessing the playground slide) vs. shorts and skirts without tights/leggings
- Sun exposure can be a concern: any sunscreen products should be used prior to arriving at school. Any suncreen brought to school must be held and ditributed by the nurse.. Additionally, light t-shirts help students stay cool and dry quick after an active recess.
- An extra change of clothes in your child's backpack will help them if they have an emergancy or need to change due to slipping in the mud, getting wet in a rain shower, or getting too sweaty.

4th Grade Curriculum Update:
Fourth grade is finishing up the Midwest Region in Social Studies. We just completed our Informational unit in Writing. In Reading, students read all about famous/historical people. We will be working on test prep in the next few weeks. We had the best time sharing at our Informational Fair. Our next unit in Science is engineering and problem solving. In math we are adding and subtracting fractions.
