Dealey Dragon Update
January Issue 2016
Message from the Principal
Happy New Year, Dealey Parents!
I hope that you enjoyed your Winter Break and had lots of opportunities to spend time with family members and friends. We are excited to welcome our students back for another wonderful semester here at Dealey.
December was an exciting month with lots of special programs and events. We concluded our semester by taking our district ACP exams and I am extremely proud to share the results with you. Although testing involves lots of schedule changes and adjustments, I would like to say that we had an extremely smooth administration due to Ms. Miller's organizational skills. Each staff member did a fantastic job monitoring and administering the exams to our students and it was evident that our students were focused and put forth their best effort.
In closing, I would like to thank you all for the wonderful holiday wishes, cards, e-mails, treats, and gifts I received before break. I was overwhelmed with your thoughtful gestures and truly appreciate your kindness. I am the luckiest principal ever.
Wishing you a happy and healthy 2016!

ACP Score Update
Our preliminary results are in and the students performed very well. We are proud of our teachers and their classes for all of the hard work that went into the first semester. As you will see, our results were above the district averages in every content area and grade level.
As we move further toward mastery, we will be very mindful of keeping a strong focus on good instruction without focusing on test "drill and kill" practices. Thank you, parents, for your support and the time you spend at home working with your children. We simply could not do it without your help.

Notes on the Carpool Line....
I know that the carpool line can sometimes be frustrating as you are dropping off and picking up students. Working together, we can make this a very smooth process. One of the main concerns I notice in the morning is that parents are getting backed up onto Royal Lane in times of heavy traffic.
Staff members will be more vigilant in guiding cars to the front of the carpool area to allow as much space as possible for parents to pull into the drop-off zone. Once you arrive, we will help unload your children as quickly as possible. If you need to get out of the car to assist your child, please pull up near the tennis courts, beyond the teacher parking lot, or park your car in a parking space so we have plenty of room to move the other cars forward and keep the line moving.
As a mother of a 7th grader, it is not uncommon for me to pull into the parking lot to find that her shoes are not on and her backpack has been dismantled on the way to school. Does this happen to you? Making sure your children are ready to go as you approach the drop off area would be a huge help as well.
If you have any other suggestions for a smoother carpool process, please do not hesitate to give me your feedback. As always, we want to keep your child's safety our number one priority.
Thanks in advance for your assistance with this matter.
