A Message from Mrs. Hankins
JSE Families and Friends,
Have you noticed your child's writing coming home throughout the year? Have you been able to see how they improved so much already? Me too! In kindergarten, students are writing sentences from pictures. First graders are doing the same and adding amazing vocabulary such as "pleasing" and "cramped". Second graders are creating persuasive writings using facts and opinions. Third graders are writing journals with fantastic titles, vocabulary, and voice. Fourth graders are creating their own constellation myths, and fifth graders are writing free narratives that showcase their knowledge and creativity.
We use strategies from Smekens Writing Workshop and made a goal to improve our writing this year. I can see from the student evidence that our teachers took the new material they learned and students are truly growing! It takes a lot of planning and preparation for our teachers to learn and implement new concepts, and our JSE staff jumped in with enthusiasm. We are fortunate to have such strong teachers and students!
Check out your child's work folder for writing samples, or ask them about their writing this week.
You are loved at JSE,
Mrs. Hankins
