JTE Parent Newsletter
May 11, 2024
Dear Tyson Tiger School Families,
We have had another great week at JTE! Mrs. Paschal was recognized as our 2024 JTE Teacher of the Year! Congratulations to Mrs. Paschal! She will be recognized by our School Board during the June 11th meeting. Thank you for helping us celebrate all of our teachers and staff during Teacher Appreciation Week! Our PTA, Robinson Avenue Church of Christ, and many other parents helped make our staff feel valued and appreciated so THANK YOU! Next week, we will celebrate our amazing students with a CELEBRATION on Friday, May 17th. We want to be able to give away a bike to a student in each grade level. If you would be interested in donating a bike or other food items, please sign up here. Thank you for your help in celebrating our TIGERS!
We will hold our final PTA meeting on May 20th at 5:30 PM. We have one PTA board position available, which is the secretary position. If you would like to be included on the ballot for the secretary position, please respond on the survey linked below by 5:00 PM on Sunday, May 19th. The survey also includes sign ups for other opportunities to support the PTA.
Just a reminder…Dress Code expectations for our students are as follows:
No crop tops or showing mid-drift
No hats or students wearing hoodies unless it’s a dress up day or prior principal approval.
Shorts and skirts must be fingertip length or longer
Shirt straps must be two inches wide or three fingers width.
No sagging pants
No clothing with profanity or inappropriate language or images.
If students violate the dress code, they will be asked to change.
JTE now has a digital parent center linked on our newsletter. This is in addition to the center located in our foyer. Both of these centers contain resources and information about accessing medical clinics, mental health resources, internet safety tips, academic support, and other school and district information. Parents can access the digital parent center using the button below or by visiting the center in the foyer.
Kindergarten registration for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year will be online at www.sdale.org/enroll. If you have any questions about Kindergarten registration, you can contact our school office at 479-750-8862.
JTE has implemented a Positive Behavior Interventions and Support System this year. We have created positively stated expectations/rules across the school to make our school safe, positive, and predictable. At John Tyson Elementary School, our student expectations are "Take care of yourself," "Take care of others," and "Take care of this place." To teach these expectations, we use a matrix that has specific examples for how to follow the expectations around the school. These examples were taught through classroom lessons in the fall and continue to be reviewed throughout the year. You can see the matrix below. In order to continue encouraging and reinforcing these positive behaviors, Tigers have been earning orange Tiger Tickets when they exhibit these behaviors. Beginning in February, we will be opening our Tiger Ticket Store where students can exchange the tickets they have earned for fun prizes and experiences.
Arrival Procedures
All students in kindergarten through fifth grade will need to be in school by 7:45. Students may be dropped off in the car rider line from 7:15-7:44. All students are tardy if not in school by 7:45 am. Students who are tardy need to be checked in by an adult using our online form (QR forms are available on the back of the car rider tag or on the front door). All students will need to unload in the car rider line from the passenger’s side of the car (no exceptions). This ensures that we do not have students walking in the area where cars drive. Please have your child ready to go with backpack on and ready to get out of the car quickly when you stop. Adults may not get out of the car during drop-off. Parents can not park and walk their child to the crosswalk or to the front doors. PreK students will be dropped off in the back parking lot from 7:35-7:45 with PreK teacher assistance. After 7:45, PreK parents will need to park in the front parking lot and bring their child to the front entrance.
Dismissal Procedures
Dismissal of students begins at 3:10. Please do not line up in the car rider line before 2:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and no earlier than 12:50 on Wednesday due to cars blocking our emergency lane. Please do not block the parking lot entrance immediately to the left when turning into our school drive from Chapman Avenue. Please do not park and come to the front doors to pick up your child. Please stay in the car rider line. If you do not have your car tag hanging from your mirror, you will need to park, go to the front door, and show your ID. Please make sure to have your car rider tag each day so it keeps our car rider line moving efficiently and safely. Families may be asked to turn right only out of our car rider line onto Cambridge during heavy traffic times. Car riders need to be picked up by 3:30 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and by 2:10 on Wednesdays. You can make arrangements with our ASP program for child care if needed.
There’s no place like JTE!
Thank you for your partnership,
