JCPS Goal: By the end of the 2023-24 school year, 100% of Johnston County Public Schools will earn a school letter grade of A, B, or C.
Our vision:
SES students are life-long learners encouraged by home, school, and the community. They will meet the challenges and high expectations of an ever-changing world. They will work to their fullest potential to make a positive difference in the school, community, and the world.
Welcome to Our Family and Community Newsletter
Dear Selma Elementary Families,
Welcome to our April edition! Spring is in the air and we are one week away from Spring Break.
We hope you will enjoy a well-deserved break with your families and loved ones.
We are excited to announce that our next APTT event will be held right after spring break. Please take a look at the APTT Newsletter or visit our APTT website for more information.
Before the break, we will administer MAP reading and math assessments. We are anticipating seeing lots of growth in both areas. Teachers will share reports as soon as the administration is over. CASE 21 our standards interim assessments will be administered during the last week of April. Please take a look at the dates below and have conversations with your student about the importance of doing their best in these assessments. The information gathered from these tests in addition to EOG and classroom data is used when determining promotion to the next grade. Teachers and administrators have discussed this information with our students.
Our Parent, Teacher, and Community Organization (PTCO) is doing great things for our students and staff but we still need a Vice President. If you are interested or know of a parent who may be interested please contact our PTCO via email at selmaelementary.ptco@gmail.com, our Parent Engagement Coordinator, Ms. Whitnee Chattman, at whitneeChattman@johnston.k12.nc.us, or call our school (919) 965-3361.
Please know we appreciate you and we are to serve you.
Respectfully,
Ms. Rosado

CKH Social Contract Focus Word
We will continue to highlight our social contract focus word of the month and challenge our SES family to participate in challenges related to the word each week. The focus words are concepts commonly found on social contracts and will help to keep us all focused on upholding the things we’ve agreed to do and value. Each month the word is different and every week students can participate in challenges that allow them to practice the social contract focus word of the month. Any and every student, family, and staff member can do the challenges! The social contract focus word this month is perseverance. Please take a look at the challenges for this month and discuss or participate with your child at home.
Focus word of the month challenges for April can be found here.
CKH Parent and Family Tips
Practice Capturing Kids Hearts at Home!
Please read the April Capturing Kids Hearts Newsletter
Perseverance is the willingness and ability to keep going when things are tough. People who persevere show steadfastness and give the extra effort needed to do something despite how hard it is or how long it takes to reach the goal. Hard work and determination are the ingredients of perseverance. By helping your children develop perseverance now, you can prepare them to learn from their future failures and work hard to achieve future successes. This month, look for opportunities to teach and model the power of perseverance! Please take a look at the April CKH Newsletter. It provides some ideas on how to help develop perseverance.
