ALERT Up-Date
January 28, 2016
Curriculum Up-Date
Students have been working hard on their architecture proposals and projects. The blueprints are now being used to create the walls for model houses. Students are taking those walls and decorating them to look like the appropriate architecture style. They are working very hard on these and I am so proud of them. There are so many math skills involved in this project. They are learning and having fun at the same time.
Cereal Boxes!
The students are able to use them to create wood siding, bricks and other house features. They are also great because the students can cut them up and use them as a template to figure out what size their roof needs to be.
Please keep sending them in!
Save the Date for a night of Family Fun with your ALERT friends!
MESA Contest
I am explaining the contest to the students in class and will be offering it as an option.
There is a short packet that students will bring home if they choose to participate in the contest. They will need a sponsor (which could be a parent or myself). If your child decides to participate let me know. Each child who participates will receive a certificate.
Here is a little more information from the contest organizer:
We encourage students to use reference resources of all types, including the internet. However, we strongly discourage parent’s assistance in finding the answers. This is a competitive contest meant to teach the children new methods of learning and exploring. We love parent’s involvement, but require the students find the answers on their own for this contest. Questions are prepared with respect to the common core standards for SC.
The deadline for entry is March 1, 2016.
