Principal's Message
Dr. Carter G. Woodson an American historian and the founder of Black History Month wrote the following quote found in his book, The Mis-Education of the Negro, "If you control a man's thinking, you do not have to worry about his action. When you determine what a man shall think, you do not have to concern yourself about what he will do. If you make a man feel that he is inferior, you do not have to compel him to accept an inferior status, for he will seek it himself." Dr. Woodson studied the history of the African Diaspora and understood that African American history in the United States did not begin with slavery. It was imperative that African American people have a comprehension of their history and empower generations of excellence. Therefore, we must adhere to the anonymous quote of, "Know history. Know self. No history. No self." Once you have knowledge of your history then you have a knowledge of self. But if you do not understand your history then you will have no understanding of who you are and or the shoulders on which you stand. Next, you must have a comprehension of the histories of all people of color in our school community. This will foster a mutual respect and understanding that contributions from ancestors of abundant backgrounds made our country a formidable force. This powerful and proficient frame of mind will make our yellow and blue Spartan territory even greater. Spartan scholars, we want you to be enlightened about your history and be aware that parents and EHS staff members hold high expectations for your academic success and provide you with constant encouragement because we see that you are exceptional.
Black history is American history.
