2021-2022 Back to School Message From Superintendent, Dr. LaTanya D. McDade & Chairman At Large, Dr. Babur Lateef
Information from School Nurse: Mrs. Antonucci
Just as a reminder:
Parents are asked to evaluate their students for symptoms of illness each day before sending them to school. If your child has any of the following symptoms, please do not send them to school: fever greater than or equal to 100.4, cough, difficulty breathing, loss of sense of taste or smell, sore throat, nasal congestion/nasal discharge, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle aches, fatigue, chills, or headache. ** If your child has 2 or more of these symptoms, they must be seen by a Dr and receive a clearance note before they return to school. **
If your child becomes sick at school with any Covid-19 and/or influenza-like symptoms that cannot be attributed to another known diagnosis, you will be called and asked to take your child home. Your child will need to be evaluated by a physician and cleared for return to school. Based on your child’s symptoms, if the physician feels a Covid test is warranted, I will need a copy of the test results for your child’s attendance record.
If your child has been exposed to someone who has tested positive and it's been determined that he/she is a close contact, your child will need to quarantine at home. The guidelines we follow for quarantining have been established by Prince William Health District. If your child is a close contact, please call me so I can review these options with you.
Please be sure all phone numbers on your child’s emergency card are accurate and up to date. Notify the school immediately should your contact information change.
Please call or email me with questions or to provide medical updates regarding your child. It is also helpful to include me in any emails you send to your child’s teacher regarding their illness and absence.

Walk to School Day: Tuesday, October 12th
Please join us on Tuesday, October 12th, as we join children and adults at schools around the world in celebration of International Walk to School Day!
We have a large group of walkers at Bristow Run and would like to celebrate by walking to school on this special day. If you walk to school with your child, feel free to take some pictures on your way to share. Please email pictures to Mrs. Francis and Mr. Nenni, and they will post them at school to share with students. We will also be sending home a scavenger hunt through canvas that students can do as well on their walk. All students will be celebrating this special day. Students who ride the bus or are car riders will walk the school grounds before school to participate. On Monday, October 11th, we will notify families should we need to reschedule due to inclement weather. Thanks for supporting our Bristow Run PE program!
Technology Update: Digital Citizenship
Teachers have been busy learning about new technologies With Mr. Painter, Ms. Foelsch, and Mrs. Tucker. They now have access to a graphics design app called Canva and Padlet, a neat way to interact with students. Ms. Foelsch and Mr. Painter hoped to do an art lesson with Canva soon with 3rd through 5th grade.
Mr. Painter will be going into classrooms in the coming weeks to discuss digital citizenship. In a nutshell, digital citizenship is how we keep ourselves safe, secure and behave properly when interacting with technology. Parents can support this effort at home by stressing the following things.
1. If you ever see or read anything online that makes you feel uncomfortable or threatened, tell a teacher or a parent immediately.
2. Always be respectful to others online. Do not threaten or harass others.
3. Only use your school accounts for school business.

Bristow Run's Garden Set-up Day SUCCESS!
Bristow Run’s first garden workday was a huge success! To create our new garden beds first we placed cardboard on the grass, then shoveled compost on top, and finished with planting several different kinds of cover crop seeds. Keep an eye out for new growth in the garden! A big thank you to all the Master Gardeners who came to the garden to guide our Bristow Run volunteers. Our next workday will be in the spring. Stay tuned for a specific date!
