Message From the Principal
Spring is an amazing time of renewal and a reminder of good days yet to come. In a school, it is also a time of excitement as we creep closer to the end of the year. This “final stretch” is an important learning time. Our focus is always on learning, even when the sun is shining and the flowers are blooming. But, at the end of the year we are hyper focused on making sure the children are set up for success in the upcoming school year.
One way we ensure that our students are also focused on learning is by continually emphasizing the TROT expectations. I am sure your child can recite them easily, tell you what they mean, and explain how to meet the expectations.
This week we are focusing keenly on THINK ABOUT SAFETY. This means stopping and thinking if your actions will hurt you and/or someone else. We are reading a fun book called Even Superheros Have Bad Days. We will be asking students to think about what happens when the superheroes do not stop and think before acting and then building a bridge into their own world. We will be discussing problem solving techniques and ways to calm down so one can think clearly. Then, each student will show an example of stopping, thinking, and making a good choice. I am excited to see their positive examples.
Ask your child about the book and the problem solving strategies they can use and have used. At school we ask them if they were thinking about safety when they make a mistake and then process what they could have done differently. And of course, we are constantly celebrating all our friends that TROT To Success. Feel free to mirror that language at home to support the learning in school.
All of this work is to create a positive and safe learning environment so we can take time to enjoy the sunshine and smell the flowers AND keep the focus on learning. Enjoy the Spring Sunshine and feel free to email or call anytime with questions, comments, or concerns.
Library Fun
Oldham first grade students in Mr. Reuland and Mrs.Miller's library classes are studying different types of poems. They used SeeSaw to create and illustrate what they have learned.
