Who is YOUR Real Life Santa Claus? Essay Winners Announced!
We had over a dozen thoughtful essay entries that made the selection committee smile, laugh, and cry! All entries were assigned a number (names removed) and presented to the Parent Association for consideration, and Fr. Twenty had the honor of selecting the two winners from the four finalist essays!
Thank you to our Parent Association for creating this meaningful celebration to add to our holiday season!
"My grandfather's gift to me was empathy. This gift was “unwrapped” when my grandfather took me with him to Ecuador. I was like a ordinary citizen, I went on the bus, which is unheard of, with my grandfather to the city hall to pay bills. Consequently, I saw how the other half of the world is living and it really taught me how blessed I am in the United States. This understanding humbled me to really take of advantage of what I have in the United States: a great education (Marian). It is truly the gift that keeps on giving."
- Robert Sbarounis
"My personal Santa doesn’t have a white beard, he wears footie pajamas- not a red suit- and drives a Playskool car instead of a sleigh. Despite his age of only two years, my little cousin Drew has taught me some of the true joys of Christmas. When he arrives anywhere, the whole room lights up. Drew has shown me that life doesn’t have to be extravagant, we can enjoy the simple things people give us- like a smile or a hug, that love is a gift too. He shows me that the greatest gift of all is family."
- Marissa Rybinski
TUITION PAYMENTS DUE DECEMBER 18TH!
REMINDER TO ALL FAMILIES -- all tuition accounts should be at least half paid at this time. Per policy: No student will be allowed to take first semester exams unless his/her tuition is current. Therefore, a minimum of one-half of the family tuition must be paid prior to the first semester exam December 19th. We will be sending emails to outstanding families next week and will talk to students December 18th if the tuition is still unpaid at that time. If you are unsure if your account is half paid and if your student will be eligible to take semester exams, please contract Mrs. Murwin -- pmurwin@marian.com.
Practice ACT in the Library - Please note the change of the January Dates
Due to the March for Life Pilgrimage, January 16-20, the previously announced January Practice ACT dates have been changed to the beginning of that week, January 14 and 15.
The Marian Central Catholic H. S. Library is offering an opportunity for Sophomores and Juniors to take a complete practice ACT test, spread out over two after-school sessions. The testing will take place on January 14 (2:30 - 5:00) and January 15 (2:30 - 4:00). These are official practice tests from ACT, and students will receive scaled scores for each test section and subsection. This is an opportunity for Marian students to get an idea of the types of questions they will be seeing on the real test. They will also experience the ACT testing environment, complete with proctored instructions, ACT rules, and more than one test in one sitting. Test seating is limited to the first 25 students to register. If you are interested, please print the form linked below, complete the signature block, and return it to the Marian library no later than January 11. You will be notified by e-mail once your form has been received. Watch the Marian website for up- to-date information on the number of seats available.
