Schedules will also be made available on FOCUS.
This is not mandatory but a great opportunity for our new students to walk the halls and get a feel for where their classes are located. Returning students are urged to log into FOCUS to view their schedule. A hard copy will be given to each student in homeroom on the first day of school. We will have school personnel in the halls as students arrive to direct them to their homeroom.
* Cell Phone Policy Update *
Dear Parent or Guardian:
As we begin another school year, the administration and teachers of Bailey Middle School have made a few changes to our school’s cell phone policy. Cell phones have quickly become a huge part of our lives in one way or another. We use them to stay in touch with one another, research various topics throughout the day and for some it is a form of entertainment. However, here at school, cell phones have become a major distraction, interruption and in some cases a method of bullying or exchanging inappropriate information. Valuable time is lost during class when students are texting or on the internet for other reasons. A ringing or vibrating phone is an instant distraction and immediately affects student learning.
We understand that we use our devices as a safety/security tool when there may be a threat. However, this type of communication adds to the panic in the event of a building emergency and slows down our ability to manage such emergencies in a safe and effective manner. Sometimes parents need to get a message to their child and we urge you to call the school to relay any urgent messages in regards to your child. Our front office does a fantastic job of making sure our students receive important information.
Please make sure to read the cell phone policy below to ensure your student is aware of the changes and we can all have a smooth, productive school year.
Students are required to keep cell phones in backpacks and on silent during school hours. The only time students can use their phone is on the bus to and from school and before the first bell of the day. Once the first bell rings at 9:05, phones should be silenced and put away in backpack.
If a student is found to be in possession or use of a cell phone, the phone will be confiscated, placed in a labeled envelope, and delivered to the dean’s office. This incident is considered a cell phone/device infraction and outlined in our Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook.
The consequences will be as follows:
1st Offense -
Cell Phone will be held in the Dean’s Office until the end of the school day.
Parent will be notified of the infraction.
2nd Offense -
Cell Phone will be held in the Dean’s Office until the parent can come to the school to sign for the phone.
Student will receive lunch detention/work detail.
3rd Offense -
Parent/Teacher conference with Dean or Administrator.
The student will receive a one (1) day In-School Suspension.
Students refusing to comply with a request to surrender will be considered defiant as outlined in the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook and consequences will be handled as such.
Our goal here at Bailey Middle School is not to punish our students but teach them appropriate use of their technology while at the same time maintaining a safe learning environment, protecting our instructional time and allowing our students a distraction-free learning environment.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our office at 492-6136. Thank you for your support and cooperation. We look forward to a wonderful school year!
Headphones and Earbud Use
We understand how bringing your child for their first day of school is important to you but it would be in the student's best interest to let them ride the bus into school. If they are not listed on the bus roster, the driver will instruct them to ask for a bus ticket from the front office so we can have their name added to the correct bus. Thank you in advance for your help with this very important task. We want all students dropped off at the correct stop and arrive safely at home!
