Cool to Care- The Little School with a Big Heart!
With just two days left to bring in food items, I am overwhelmed by the amount of "Care" taking place throughout our little school community. A special thank you to Mrs. DuPrey and our 2 student leaders: Paige McArdle and Cael Kuzinski who have started our mornings each day with some motivation over the announcements. Also, Ranee, Julie, and Wanda have done a wonderful job making sure that our bulletin board, daily count, and packing have been kept up to date. The grade level contests will end on Tuesday at 3:00pm. Any cans that come in after that will count toward our building total. Winners will be announced on Wednesday morning. I'm working out a special building reward for totally blowing past our building goal! Stay tuned!!!
12 Days of Nice and Routines
As we are heading into the "12 Days of Nice", please do your best to keep your routines! Families’ routines are all over the place during the holidays. Some families are stressed out about the holidays, some worry about sharing their children with the other parent. It can get adults all ramped up which means…our kiddos may be off track themselves. The anxiety that some of our families may be feeling can lead to children becoming anxious themselves. Amping up the positive communication not only helps students feel good about what they are doing, in turn it helps us. I know when I've had a hectic day, pausing and making a positive phone call to a parent can really change my outlook!
PTO - Santa's Workshop
PTO sponsored Santa's Workshop will take place on Friday, December 11th. Schedules were distributed, however the office will provide a reminder schedule later this week along with a lunch schedule that will keep our students with allergies safe.
This is such an amazing opportunity for our kiddos. Please remember to prepare your students for Santa's Workshop this week, in particular: transitions in the hallways so we are not disrupting other classrooms and reminders to keep hands to themselves. We will be eating lunch in classrooms on Friday. Please also remind students to use their very best Cardinal Code while shopping. Please and thank you goes a long way and we want our volunteers to feel appreciated.
Attendance Intervention Procedures
1. Each Monday, Julie will run an attendance report. This report identifies any students who have 7 or more absences/tardies.
2. Each Monday, Julie will provide Rachel any reports so that she is able to log them into a Google Form.
3. Once Rachel logs the information, she will provide teachers with any 7 day notifications.
4. For 7 day notifications, teachers are to contact the parent/guardian, make note of the parent response, and return the form to Rachel's mailbox within 5 days.
5. For 10 day absences/tardies the system will generate a parent letter that Rachel and I will discuss and decide whether or not the letter needs to be mailed based on the student's individual circumstances. If a letter is mailed, a copy will be placed in teacher's mailbox for your records.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
DRA Assessment Window
The DRA Assessment window runs from January 11 - 22 and all students in Grades K - 4 will be assessed during the window. A few things to keep in mind:
- Subs will be provided this time;
- Due to the sub shortage, I will only approve days for one grade level at a time.
- Data is due to be entered before leaving on Friday, January 29th.
It is not too early to begin to turn in your blue prearranged absence form for this activity. Make sure that you mark the date of your grade level's testing on the big calendar!
Thanks for your attention to scheduling!
A little bit of PD.....
A few of the GREAT things that I noticed last week...
A special thank you to Wanda. Wanda is always willing to fill in when needed. Thank you for being so flexible with your schedule and for all of the extras that you do to make our office look beautiful! I appreciate you!
Kudos to Jeane! Kids are going crazy for coding after school! It's become a "hot" after school club. We will be adding another section for the next round of clubs. Jeane has offered to volunteer her time so that kids can participate. Thanks for going above and beyond and for putting kids first. If you want to learn a little more about coding, feel fee to stop by coding club on Tuesdays after school.
Thank you to Julie and Michelle for representing Hill School at the District Math meeting last week! I appreciate your time and professionalism!
